I’ve got a good friend who’s probably a lot like you.  He loves the Bible and does his best to read it and live it every day.  There’s one problem.  Some of his friends say the Bible isn’t true, and he’s not always sure how to respond. So I’ve created a list of the best arguments I can find for the credibility of the Bible. Interested?  Okay, here are my Top 10 Reasons the Bible is True. (If I missed any that are important to you, please add them in the comment section below.  I’d love to hear from you.)

  1. Manuscript Evidence.  There are way more copies of the biblical manuscripts, with remarkable
consistency between them, than there are for any of the classics like Plato, Aristotle and Socrates.  “There is no body of ancient literature in the world which enjoys such a wealth of good textual attestation as the New Testament.”
F.F. Bruce, The New Testament Documents: Are They Reliable?
  2. Archaeological Evidence. Again and again archaeological discoveries have verified the accuracy of the historical and cultural references in the Bible.  The more they dig, the more it confirms the Bible.  “It is important to note that Near Eastern archaeology has demonstrated the historical and geographical reliability of the Bible in many important areas.” E.M. Blaiklock, The New International Dictionary of Biblical Archaeology.
  3. Eyewitness Accounts.  The Bible was written by people who witnessed the events it describes; many were persecuted or martyred but never changed their story.  Would you die for something you knew was untrue? “It is no moderate approbation of Scripture that it has been sealed by the blood of so many witnesses, especially when we reflect that they died to render testimony to the faith …with a firm and constant, yet sober, zeal toward God.” John Calvin, Institutes of the Christian Religion.
  4. Corroborating Accounts. There are plenty of references in non-biblical sources to the events described in the Bible. The Jewish historian Josephus, born in 37 AD, “provide(s) indispensable background material for the student of…New Testament history. In them, we meet many figures well known to us from the New Testament. Some of his writings provide direct commentary on New Testament references.”  J.D.
    Douglas, ed.,
    The New Bible Dictionary.
  5. Literary Consistency.  The Bible contains 66 books written over 1,500 years by 40 different writers but it tells one “big story” of God’s plan of salvation that culminated in Jesus Christ.  You can’t even pass a secret around a circle of 12 people and get the same message at the end. “There is indeed a wide variety of human authors and themes (in the Bible). Yet behind these…there lies a single divine author with a single unifying
    theme.” John R.W. Stott,
    Understanding the Bible.
  6. Prophetic Consistency.  There are over 300 specific prophecies in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the New Testament.  “The very dimension of the sheer fulfillment of prophecy of the Old Testament Scriptures should be enough
to convince anyone that we are dealing with a supernatural piece of literature….God has himself planted within the scriptures an internal
consistency that bears witness that this is his Word.” R.C. Sproul,
    Now That’s a Good Question.
  7. Expert Scrutiny. The early church had extremely high standards for what books were judged to be authentic and therefore included in the Bible. A book had to have been written by an Apostle or someone in their immediate circle, had to conform to basic Christian faith and had to be in widespread use among many churches. This was a careful process of “the people of God in many different places, coming to recognize what other believers elsewhere found to be true”; these writings were truly God’s word. G.J. Wenham, J.A. Motyer, D.A. Carson and R.T. France, The New Bible Commentary.
  8. Leader Acceptance.  A majority of the greatest leaders and thinkers in history have affirmed the truth and impact of the Bible“I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given man. All the good from the Savior of the world is communicated to us through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong.” Abraham Lincoln.
  9. Global Influence.  The Bible has had a greater influence on the laws, art, ethics, music and literature of world civilization than any other book in history.  Can you think of one that even comes close?  “Christianity”, as set forth in the Bible “is responsible for a disproportionately large number of the humanitarian advances in the history of civilization—in education, medicine, law, the fine arts, working for human rights and even in the natural sciences….” Craig L. Blomberg, in Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case for Biblical Faith.
  10. Changed Lives.  From St. Augustine to Martin Luther to Joni Eareckson Tada to countless everyday men, women and children, the words of the Bible have transformed lives unmistakably and forever.  “As unnamed masses of Christians down through the ages have shown us, the Bible is the most reliable place to turn for finding the key to a life of love and good works.” T.M. Moore, The Case for the Bible.

I hope this list helps you become more confident about the Bible.  But don’t forget: whenever you have an opportunity to defend God’s Word, be sure to “speak the truth in love” (Eph. 4:15).  No one listens to an angry Bible reader.  (If I missed any reasons that are important to you, please add them in the comment section below.  I’d love to hear from you.)

and humans are a selfcentered creature, not always seeing the true motives of their hearts. The scriptures go against basic human behavior in many ways…just one more proof these writings are inspired by a higher power and could not come from man.

Exlellent reasons. I have used Scripture Union devotions for years. I currently download it to my Kindle and thoroughly apprecate and enjoy the comments of great commentators.

All great reasons to recognise the Bible as God's inspired (means God-breathed) message to the Adam's descendants.

Another reason to have faith in the literal integrity of the Bible is the way YHWH (translated in English Bibles as The LORD) laced it together: There are wonderful rewards for the diligent Bible student, such as the mathematical properties of the whole book (FYI 'Bible' derives from the word Biblia meaning books).

Atheist Russian mathematician Ivan Panin was angry when his wife came into relationship with Christ, so he set out to prove the Bible to have no mathematical integrity. What he discovered made him become a Christ-follower himself. He's credited with being the discoverer of the heptadic (multiples of 7) nature of the Bible. He spewnt the rest of his life devoted to studying the Word of God and wrote many books on this over 50 years. Here's an example of his discoveries:

In the short genealogy of the Christ (Messiah in Hebrew, or redeemer in English) in Matthew 1, in the original Greek, there are (at least) 24 heptadic occurrences including:

    1. The number of words which are nouns is exactly 56, or 7 x 8.
    2. The Greek word “the” occurs most frequently in the passage: exactly 56 times, or 7 x 8.
    3. Also, the number of different forms in which the article “the” occurs is exactly 7.
    4. There are two main sections in the passage: verse 1-11 and 12-17. In the first main section, the number of Greek vocabulary words used is 49, or 7 x 7.
    5. Of these 49 words, The number of those beginning with a vowel is 28, or 7 x 4.
    6. The number of words beginning with a consonant is 21, or 7 x 3.
    7. The total number of letters in these 49 words is exactly 266, or 7 x 38-exactly.
    8. The numbers of vowels among these 266 letters is 140, or 7 x 20.
    9. The number of consonants is 126, or 7 x 18-exactly.
    10. Of these 49 words, the number of words which occur more than once is 35, or 7 x 5.
    11. The number of words occurring only once is 14, or 7 x2.
    12. The number of words which occur in only one form is exactly 42, or 7 x 6.
    13. The number of words appearing in more than one form is also 7.
    14. The number of 49 Greek vocabulary words which are nouns is 42, or 7 x 6.
    15. The number of words which are not nouns is 7.
    16. Of the nouns, 35 are proper names, or 7 x 5.
    17. These 35 nouns are used 63 times, or 7 x 9.
    18. The number of male names is 28, or 7 x 4.
    19. These male names occur 56 times or 7 x 8.
    20. The number of names which are not male is 7.
    21. Three women are mentioned-Tamar, Rahab, and Ruth. Three in Gematria speaks of the Messiah. The number of Greek letters in these three names is 14, or 7 x 2.
    22. The number of compound nouns is 7.
    23. The number of Greek letters in these 7 nouns is 49, or 7 x 7.
24Only one city is named in this passage, Babylon, which in Greek contains exactly 7 letters.

Here's a quick deductive argument for the truth of all the Bible teaches based on the resurrection:

    1. That Jesus of Nazareth was actually raised from the dead is as certain as anything in ancient history from an historical investigation based on facts accepted by the vast majority of scholars, whether they be Christian believers or skeptical unbelievers.

    2. Scholars agree that Jesus predicted he would be raised from the dead by “God,” and this would be his chief sign that he was an accredited prophet of God in terms of his teaching and acts.

    3. There is no natural explanation for a resurrection from the dead: that's just not something that happens in the course of nature. People die and stay dead. When one considers this and the truth of “2” above, it is clear that Jesus was raised from the dead supernaturally by “God.” Only the creator and ruler of nature can do something like raise someone from the dead.

    4. Thus, it follows that the resurrection proves that God exists, and is specifically the God Jesus taught about and followed, the God Jesus prophesied would raise him from the dead.

    5. The God Jesus taught about and followed is the God revealed in the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament). In fact, Jesus took it for granted that what the Hebrew Scriptures revealed and taught is true without any errors.

    6. Thus God, in accrediting Jesus by raising him from the dead, has told us that the Old Testament is true, for he has accredited that what Jesus taught is true. And, as we have seen from “5,” Jesus taught that the Old Testament is true.

    7. Jesus also promised that God would further reveal himself through apostles that Jesus selected. Among other things, these apostles (or their close companions) wrote the New Testament.

    8. Thus God, in accrediting Jesus by raising him from the dead, has told us that the New Testament is true, for he has accredited that what Jesus taught is true. And, as we have seen from “5,” Jesus taught that the New Testament would be the product of God speaking through the apostles.

    9. Therefore, by raising Jesus from the dead and thereby accrediting him as a prophet, God has shown us that he, God exists, that he is specifically the God revealed in the Old and New Testaments, and that all those Scriptures teach is true.

There are many other arguments for the existence of God and the truth of Jesus and the Bible. But this is a great, simple argument. And we find this kind of reasoning from miracles, including the resurrection of Jesus, in the Bible itself, so God has vouchsafed it to us as an effective argument.

From the Westminster Confession of Faith (I:5):

We may be moved and induced by the testimony of the Church to an high and reverend esteem of the Holy Scripture. (1 Tim. 3:15) And the heavenliness of the matter, the efficacy of the doctrine, the majesty of the style, the consent of all the parts, the scope of the whole (which is, to give all glory to God), the full discovery it makes of the only way of man’s salvation, the many other incomparable excellencies, and the entire perfection thereof, are arguments whereby it doth abundantly evidence itself to be the Word of God: yet notwithstanding, our full persuasion and assurance of the infallible truth and divine authority thereof, is from the inward work of the Holy Spirit bearing witness by and with the Word in our hearts. (1 John. 2:20, John 16:13–14, 1 Cor. 2:10–12, Isa. 59:21)

I love this post, thank you for sharing.

As a Christian who believes the Bible is true based on the work God has done in my life, I am often amazed at how much “real” evidence exists to show the Bible is true. You have outlined many of those reasons above.

And, the good news is that we are only learning more and more about why the Bible is true. Discoveries such as the Dead Sea Scrolls is an example.

    Thanks for sharing.

I just want to say thank you for compiling this list! It is concise and very practical for use. I will use it in my ministry.

  • June 9, 2013 at 1:54 pm

A very interesting list you've put together here!

#3 Eyewitness Accounts – I'm not sure how anyone can dispute this. Even in today's courts of law, an eyewitness account of a crime counts for something. These accounts along with #1, 2 and 4 from your list should be enough evidence for anyone to believe that the Bible is true.

  • June 12, 2013 at 12:18 am

Michael…good point. And if you read the Gospels or Acts looking for eyewitness details, you realize just how much of it there is. That alone may not convince people, but with the other points from the list I think it's a pretty convincing case. Thanks for your comment.

  • June 17, 2013 at 6:22 pm

If you think about it jesus is technically a zombie. And im sorry to say that i am still not convinced with your evidence an example: uncle toms cabin a book that is entirely fictional converted so many northeners to be moraly against slavery that it changed the history of the United states. There are many historically reliable sources implying that such a thng could have happened but let me give you an example from the bibble in the new testament there is a part where jesus walks on water. Now take the most christian wholesome, and pure person you know and tell me can he walk on water? It has been proven through science using the formula for density that humans are simply to dense to ever be capable to do so. Another reason why the bible is false is because god helps people in the book, while in real lufe god has yet to help me over come my cancer or cure the world of aids or some other spiritual help.

  • June 17, 2013 at 11:14 pm

I just wanted to point out, It's scientifically impossible to have a child and to still be a virgin. And your argument to that is she connected with the holy spirit. So she had sex with a ghost? Spirits don't exist! Also how come the Bible says treat everyone with respect and love thy neighbour, yet discriminates homosexuality, people that don't have a choice about being gay and are still wrongly and cruelly discriminated by religious people. Does that sound loving? How can someone be raised from the dead? Because God did it? What was the point in Jesus dying in the first place? Also how come dinosaurs existed if we were meant to be the first creatures God created? You claim archaeology proves religion, well it also disproves it. Also what about natural selection and evolution? Genes? Do you believe in genes? Because that is how we are made up, through inheriting genes, not by God creating us! I would like to know your views on science and how the Bible is true when there is a lot and i mean A LOT of science that proves the Bible was a lie. I mean for a start it was made up by man, not even God himself, therefore it is a fictional story. It is like me believing Harry Potter is real!

  • June 18, 2013 at 10:28 am

    Dear Yomamadud77,

Thanks for your input to the dialog. A few responses. First, I'm sorry you are struggling with cancer. Second, the Bible doesn't say anyone can walk on water, only that Jesus did. And my point is there is evidence to support that claim (eyewitnesses, etc.). Third, my suggestion is that you read the Gospel of John with an open mind and heart and then decide for yourself, “Who is Jesus?” God bless you.

  • June 18, 2013 at 10:37 am

To my Anonymous Friend (who commented on June 17),

Thanks for your comments. My main response is that in my experience, many people who say that science contradicts the Bible haven't taken time to read the Bible for themselves. You sound very angry about the Bible, but have you read it? So I have the same suggestion for you as for another commenter: read the Gospel of John with an open mind and heart and then decide, “Who is Jesus?” God bless you.

  • July 13, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Ok, so this is the conclusion I've come to,
a.) in Genesis when God created animals BEFORE man(thank you very much anonymous) he created Dinosaurs too, are they not animals as well?
b.) another proof that I have for God goes hand in hand with science, The 3 laws for cells, law 1 states that all cells can only come from other cells/ living things. So when Earth came to be, if there was no creator how did the first cell come into existence. Even if evoloution did exist it would a single cell, and once again cell law 1 indicates a living thing must have been present in order for something living to exist. Therefore that living thing/person was God.
    c.) yomamadud77
Im sorry that you are enduring cancer, however you cannot cancel out Gods existence because of that.

    John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Jesus even said that bad things will happen, he didnt sugar coat it like Buddha did. All this happened because we are living in a fallen world, until our Lord makes his 2nd coming, we shall prevail.
    God bless you all

A good place to start reading the NT are with the first words of the Mark gospel, if you are aware that all of the books, letters and gospels are written in the invariable, teaching, literary form of the parable. The Mark gospel is written as 31 consecutive parableStories. The first sets the stage for the second and so on. To receive a brief tutorial on this literary form go to the blog in wordpress whose user name is onlyinparables. Mike Carrell

An excellent summary of key reasons for accepting the Bible as a true and reliable account of God's redemptive plan and activities that culminate in the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank-you, Whitney.

  • August 1, 2013 at 5:41 am

Not being hateful or anything, just curious. To the people who believe in the Bible, what are your views on evolution? Do you dismiss it completely, or do you accept some theories? Also, if you have come across other people with different religions who are as devout to their own religions as you are to your own, what are your thoughts on that? Do you believe that their stories are real as well, or are you against their different beliefs and faith? What do you think will become of them after death? Thanks to whomever kindly answers these questions.

In regards to the person above who talked about cell laws, I would just like to remind you that cells contain many particles, from phospholipids to acids to macro proteins that determine the functions of these cells. Throughout billions and millions of years, time allows single elements to bond and form these particles, including RNA and DNA that are the fundamental keys to reproduction, as they are able to replicate themselves through the help of specific proteins (enzymes). Only with these DNA/RNA does a cell actually have “life”. If you understand what I've stated, and believe in it, but believe the driving force behind all this evolution is your God, not just time and mere chance, then I find that to be a just answer, but to create animals randomly and plop them on earth in a day seems a bit far stretched for me.

  • August 4, 2013 at 3:18 pm

You guys are wonderful! My sincerest sympathies to the person with cancer. I didnt read all the comments but decided to try to help a bit. The bible refers to the earth as an “orb” back when it was believed to be flat. It also talks about underwater geisers that were not even discovered till recent years. It even talks about the planets when all they could see at that time were stars. It was by several peoples induring faith that healed them. Even if u believe in the big bang…. something had to set it in motion. I have to jave a higher power. If i lost my hope it would destroy me. What would anyone have to loose by simply believing? The bible is a foolproof way live and coexist by. The reason that homosexuality is frowned upon is because it is an outright rebellion. But i love the sinner. I hate the sin. And there r other religions that all come down to 1 thing… a higher power and love. We will all learn right from wrong in due time. I love all of my brothers and sisters.

  • August 10, 2013 at 11:04 pm

All excellent reasons that prove the Bible is true and accurate. I am fascinated when archaeologists find ruins or artifacts that further prove the validity of the Bible. Good article.

  • August 11, 2013 at 11:19 am

Hmmmm??? I too want for God to exist..BUT..Believers PLEASE get an education..The above reasons for Gods existence are flawed nonsense..Assumptions or down right lies unfortunately..When you read the bible think..Is this the actions/reactions of an all loving all knowing mercifull creator or does he act more like a human being would..
No one knows the bible better than your opposites.
They actually studied it & give you honest answers..
Google up the contradictions..absurdities & evil in the bible & see if you still think its the inafllible word of God..
Trying to link Jesus to the old testament is a big failure..
Josephuses evidence of Christ is a definite much later addition by christians to his works.
Check the nonsense about the virgin birth & the never happened roman sensus..
Did Nazareth even exist in Jesuses time..
The Jewish archaeologist(think my spellings correct) due to no evidence even said the whole story of the exodus is just that..a story..WHAT NO MOSES!!!..Jesus believed in Moses so was he confused too as a God. The bibles explicit as to where the Jews were & moved to..not a trace of some two million Jews anywhere..
    And theres lots more problems..
Please stop BLIND FAITH..I dont think even God expects that of us..
As for turning water into wine it would have been smarter to turn all wine into water & tell us how to make freaking soap..to wash our hands.
Now that would have helped us a lot more & saved a whole lot of lives & been better evidence of his powers..
    Thanks for reading

    Matt V,
I like how you make all believers sound like uneducated, dumb, backwoods, looneys. Lol. And people who are non believers are so wise and smart and educated lol.
Anyways, I think that the Bible will never be able to be proven to be 100% true and that's by God's design. What is faith if you can prove that it is true? Do people even know what faith is anymore?
You just have to make up your own mind. But let me share with you the seventeenth-century French philosopher, mathematician, and physicist, Blaise Pascal argument for God's existence know as Pascal's Wager. Basically, every human is involved in the game know as Life with only two possible bets to make and live by. The first is to bet on that God does exists so you live out your life accordingly and if you are wrong, you only loose small finite things such as pleasures, luxuries, etc. But if you are right and God does exist, There is here an infinity of an infinitely happy life to gain.
Same for those who choose to believe God does not exist. If you are right, then you don't loose anything and have enjoyed a life full of pleasures and self indulgences. But if you are wrong, you face an eternity of suffering.
It is up to everyone to decide how they want to bet their life's in this game of Life.

  • August 20, 2013 at 8:17 pm

Matt V, I find that the Old Testament has a lot to say about Christ. Isaiah 53, for example. The story of Abraham preparing to offer his one and only son as a sacrifice is to me about Christ. The Passover lamb whose blood protected the household from Gods' wrath speaks of Christ. If God exists then He is not a part of His creation and not subject to the scientific laws which He put into effect. If He created time and space yet is not a part of time and space, where do we mortals find Him. We find Him in the evidence He left us in His remarkable creation, mysteries that science has hardly begun to unravel or explain. We find Him in His Word which He requires to be approached with faith. Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him”. For me one of the best evidences that the Bible is true is that it puts its finger on mans primary problem. Man can conceive of good, but cannot consistently achieve good. Man cannot live up to the standard God or even man has set, so the path to a relationship with our perfect and incomprehensible Creator is not in what we do, but in what we believe. I don't think the Bible can be believed apart from faith and the presence of Gods Holy Spirit. May you surrender to His power soon.

  • August 31, 2013 at 12:06 pm

To Dan's point, I have always said “Better to believe in God and discover he doesn't exist than to not believe and discover he does”. I like the above comment that say “I love the sinner but hate the sin”. How true. All one needs to do is get off the ground and look at our life today at 30,000 feet and you can clearly see how our world today has vastly higher levels of self guided views on our faiths and morals, crime is higher and more violent, the division of haves and have nots is greater; fueled of course in part by technology both in the execution of these things as much as the reporting of them, but one can clearly see our world is exponentially coming apart and eaves me no doubt that what is predicted yet still in the bible is moving true and will happen without a doubt. Those that would dispute that should be careful in their answers to absolutely and with 100% clarity and accuracy prove that the people of this world will eventually lead it to what is predicted as the end of times. Best of luck and may my God, the one true God, bless you today.

  • September 3, 2013 at 2:34 pm

You're all dangerously insane. Religion is the true evil in this world. Always has been. Life is finite. The inevitably of death makes me live.

  • September 8, 2013 at 12:31 pm

EscapedCatholic… while hilarious, your comment was mean. I didn't call you any names. All we were trying to do was help you cause God knows it's difficult enough for a believer to maintain a powerful enough mind in having faith for something you can't see, hear, or feel. It's so hard to keep up in this life with dedication, perseverance, motivation, endless research, and the ultimate cognition and free open mindedness to see beyond this world to a place where the words “impossible” and “retarded” do not exist where normally they would be used as a bar to keep one from experiencing peace when others cannot see it. And I whole heartedly agree with you… in that, I read a joke about how aliens came to this earth and said there was no intelligent life anywhere and people were at war over whose religion was more peaceful. I laughed till I cried. So true. A soldier went overseas and proclaimed that the Quran is much like the Holy bible. So why war? They can't even read it. They just do what they are told…. much like most people here huh????

  • September 25, 2013 at 7:45 pm

All of the sources are biased. There is no geographical evidence of world wide flooding in the same time period, certain areas did have floods but all in different time periods with scientific explanations to why they happened. The only reason people don't question the bible is because it says that you're not allowed to. Most religious people are indoctrinated into whatever religion they are part of and when they can think for themselves they only cling more to their religion when it is being ripped away from them.

  • September 27, 2013 at 3:22 pm

Actually, September 25, 2013 Anonymous, the Bible does say to seek out the truth and commends those who search the Scriptures.
To everyone else, yes, Christians are biased. But, so are atheists. To say atheists are not biased is to submit to blatant hypocrisy.
The above reasons do NOT prove the Bible is true. It is called CIRCUMSTANTIAL EVIDENCE that lends itself to the possibility–read:reality–that the Bible is a credible source of information about history, science, God, salvation, and morality.
Someone above questioned the existence of Nazareth, but yes, it has been discovered by archaeologists. It was an insignificant town, which lends credence to Nathaniel's statement, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”
Back to Anonymous September 25, people cling to their religions, yes. Atheists cling to their religion because it frees them from all moral obligations but those which they choose for themselves. After all, if there is no higher authority, whom must we submit to?
As for evolution, you do realize that Darwin concocted that hypothesis from the fantasies of his mind, don't you? He saw things, strange things, that he did not have a scientific explanation for–Galapagos mockingbirds, anyone?–and came up with a “What if” hypothesis for which there is no concrete proof. His work is better attributed to a philosopher.
Great scientists in history have believed in God, such as Blaise Pascal, Sir Francis Bacon, Isaac Newton–although, sadly, Newton did not believe in Christ–Matthew Maury–who found ocean currents after reading in his BIBLE about the “paths in the seas,” –and others. However, we should not believe something just because influential or “brilliant” people do.
Lastly, facts about the credibility of the Bible alone will not always sway people's minds–although there have been some who have set out to disprove the Bible and ended up believing it–. Our testimonies to God's power to transform lives will, for some, be the ultimate verdict.
P.S. Do not be offended if atheists look down upon your intellect. It is a ploy I have heard my younger–read: little– siblings use before. It is an ancient tactic: assume intellectual superiority and the opponent will back down. Search out the facts, and see if you can truly be as “unbiased” as atheists CLAIM they are.

I have some Questions for anyone who can answer them. i am not trying to be a smart guy or sarcastic..I am just confused. Why do Christians deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours?? Why do Christians laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God?? Why do Christians laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky?? Why do Christians believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs — though excluding those in all rival sects – will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most “tolerant” and “loving.”?? When Christians hear of the “atrocities” attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in “Exodus” and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in “Joshua” including women, children, and trees, why is that?? please someone try and answer these.

My sincere hope is that everyone who has doubts will ask God to come into their lives IF He is real. If you seek Him, you will find Him. God bless!

None of these things are proof, and number 7, actually facilitates number 4.

I'm confused with the statement about eye witness accounts. If you don't have an eyewitness present to question and verify or by all means disprove these claims than how can you be certain that the stories are not fictitious? Also, to the person who said about cell laws and to just finish off on what anonymous said on the 1st August, the cells you talk of are eukaryotic cells. Eukayotes were created from prokaryotic cells, these being bacteria cella -google “endosymbiosis”. I would be a whole lot more accepting of the bible had it stated that no later than the fourth day, god created bacteria.

“God's plan” is the way that Christians traditionally explain things like amputations, cancer, hurricanes and car accidents. For example, if a Christian dies a painful and tragic death because of cancer, she dies as part of God's plan. Her death has a purpose. God called her home for a reason. Even if something bad happens to a Christian, it is actually good because it is part of God's plan.
You can see how pervasive “God's plan” is by looking in Christian inspirational literature. For example, if we look in the book A Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, we find this remarkable paragraph in Chapter 2:

Because God made you for a reason, he also decided when you would be born and how long you would live. He planned the days of your life in advance, choosing the exact time of your birth and death. The Bible says, “You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your book!” [Psalm 139:16]
Take a moment and think about what Rick Warren said. Rick said, “He planned the days of your life in advance, choosing the exact time of your birth and death.” Let's examine one simple implication of this statement. What this means is that God has pre-planned every abortion that has taken place on our planet.

If the concept of “God's plan” is true, you can first of all see that God wants us to be aborting children. Every single abortion is planned by God, so God must be doing it for a reason. Second, you can see that both the mother who requests the abortion and the doctor who performs it are blameless. Since it is God who planned the abortion of the child (God chose the “exact time” of the death, according to Rick Warren), the mother and doctor are simply puppets who are fulfilling God's plan, are they not? What about all the Christians who are fighting against abortion? If abortion is part of God's plan, why are they fighting it? God is the all-powerful ruler of the universe, and his plan is for more than a million children a year to die in the United States through abortion. [ref] If God's plan is true, then each one of those abortions was meticulously planned by God.

If you are searching for the truth about God and His plan for mankind, where should you look? What is the only trustworthy source to find God's truth? Would it be creed books, Bible commentaries and a variety of other written works of men?

Jeremiah 30:1-2 This word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, 2 “Thus says the Lord, saying, the God of Israel, 'Write all the words which I have spoken to you in a book.

The Lord did not tell Jeremiah to check with Billy Graham, Joesph Smith Jr., Gandhi or Saint Augustine and write down their words.

Exodus 24:3-4 Then Moses came and recounted to the people all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words which the Lord has spoken we will do!” 4 Moses wrote down all the words of the Lord…….

Moses did not write down everything that John Wesley, Brigham Young, and Buddha had said.

Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God!”

Jesus said live by every word that comes from God. He did say say live by every word that comes from Pope Benedict XVI, Martin Luther, and Jerry Falwell.

Luke 10:25-26 And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying. “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life ?” 26 And He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?”

Jesus did not answer the lawyer by asking him “how does what is written by Robert Schuller, Mother Teresa and Benny Hin read to you?”

Acts 17:2-3 And according to Paul's custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from Scriptures, explaining and giving evidence that Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, “This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ.”

The apostle Paul did not reason from the writings of Max Lucado, Pope John Paul II and John Calvin.

John 20:30-31 Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

The writings of John McAthur, Jack Van Impe, Bill Hybels and Charles Swindoll were not written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ.

2 Peter 3:15-16 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures…

Peter said Paul's letters were by wisdom from God. Paul's letters were Scriptures.

Where does Peter say creed books, catechisms, Bible commentaries, books about the Bible, and other writings of men are Scriptures?

What about Ritual Human Sacrifice, Rape in the Bible, Murder in the Bible, Slavery in the Bible? Should i get started on that or do you get the point?

  • November 5, 2013 at 5:58 pm

The charge that the Bible is nothing more than a fairy tale or a book of nice stories is not new. The Bible is undoubtedly the most impactful book the world has ever known, transforming innumerable lives. Why, then, would the question whether or not the Bible is a fairy tale be a legitimate one in the hearts of many around the world?

From the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation, we read the story of God’s eternal design to redeem a fallen world. With God as its inspiring Author, the Bible is the world’s greatest work of literature, and throughout the ages multitudes have spent their lives proclaiming its truth. Many, in fact, have made the ultimate sacrifice so that others may simply hold in their hands a copy of its pages. Nevertheless, there has never been a book that has been as viciously attacked as the Bible. The Bible has been banned, burned, mocked, ridiculed and defamed. Many have been put to death for simply possessing a Bible. But still the idea that the Bible is a fairy tale persists.

  • November 5, 2013 at 5:59 pm

The “prince of this world” has been blinding people to the truth since the beginning of time. He began his “work” on earth by calling God’s words into question (Genesis 3:1-5), and he has been doing so ever since. Everywhere we look, false teaching is rampant—on television and radio, in books and magazines, in our schools and universities, and sadly, even in our churches and Christian colleges, the very places where the truth of God’s Word should most vigorously be defended. When children are taught that our ancestors crawled out of the ocean eons ago, have we not relegated creation and Adam and Eve to fairy tale status? It’s the same thing when scientists and academicians tell us we are wasting our time searching for the “mythological” Noah’s Ark.

In fact, when many in the church, in order to placate the academic world, allow for a reinterpretation of the book of Genesis to accommodate modern evolutionary thought, the message sent to the world is that the Bible, apparently, means something other than what its simple, ordinary words convey. When the supernatural events of the Bible are dubbed as allegory by naturalists, it is understandable how those who have never studied the Bible can be confused as to its truth. For those who have never availed themselves of the truth of God’s Word, how likely are they to believe in a talking donkey or a fish swallowing a man and spitting him out on the shore or a woman turning into a pillar of salt?

  • November 5, 2013 at 5:59 pm

However, the Bible is most assuredly not a fairy tale. In fact, the Bible was “God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16), and this essentially means God wrote it. Its human authors wrote from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21). That’s why this divinely woven text of nearly three quarters of a million words is perfect in harmony from start to finish and contains no contradictions, even though its sixty-six books have forty different authors from different walks of life, written in three different languages and taking nearly sixteen centuries to complete. How possibly could we have this amazing congruity if it wasn’t for God guiding the authors’ hands? We could not; it’s that simple. A righteous God would never inspire error. A just God would not call error-filled Scripture “holy and true.” A merciful God would not state that His Word is perfect if it were not, and an omniscient God could write it so that it is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.

Time and again, the historicity of the Bible has been confirmed by biology, geology, and astronomy. And although the Bible may not always agree with naturalistic hypotheses, it is not in conflict with any true, established scientific facts. In archaeology, the last one hundred years have brought to light a treasure trove of biblical truths that scholars have questioned or doubted for centuries, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, the basalt stone containing the “House of David” inscription, a 7th century BC amulet scroll bearing the name of God, and a stone bearing the name and title of Pontius Pilate, the Judean governor who ordered the execution of Jesus Christ. The Bible is without doubt the best documented book from the ancient world, with more than 24,000 whole or partial biblical manuscripts in existence. No other document of antiquity has nearly as much evidence to confirm its reliability.

  • November 5, 2013 at 6:00 pm

Another attestation to the Bible’s divine authorship is the vast number of detailed biblical prophecies that have come true exactly as foretold. We see the psalmist, for example, telling of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ nearly a thousand years before it occurred (Psalm 22), and hundreds of years before crucifixion was even invented! Simply put, it would be impossible for human beings to have seen so far into the future with such precision and accuracy hundreds of times. Indeed, it would be completely illogical to believe these proven prophecies are anything other than the work of God. Incidentally, and amazingly, probability experts tell us the mathematical odds of just forty-eight prophecies regarding one person (i.e. Christ) coming true as foretold are one in ten to the 157th power!

But the greatest proof that the Bible is not a fairy tale is the countless number of lives that have been transformed by the truths contained in its pages. Used by the Spirit of God, the holy truths of the Bible have turned millions of sinners into saints. Drug addicts have been cured by it, homosexuals set free by it, derelicts and deadbeats transformed by it, hardened criminals reformed by it, sinners rebuked by it, and hate turned to love by it. No amount of reading “Cinderella” or “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” can effect such change on the soul of man. The Bible does possess a dynamic and transforming power that is only possible because it is truly God’s Word.

In light of the foregoing, the greater question, then, is how could someone not believe in these convincing, God-breathed, error-free, life-transforming truths? Unfortunately, the answer is actually an easy one. God has said that if we do not open your hearts to Him, He will not open our eyes to the truth. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would teach us (John 14:26) and guide us into truth (John 16:13). And the truth of God is found in the Word of God (John 17:17). Thus, to those who believe, these sacred words are life itself, but, to those without the Spirit, the Bible is nothing but foolishness (1 Corinthians 2:14).

If the Bible is true then
    1) slavery is right,
    2) Poligamy is ok
    3) Snakes *can* talk
    4) Unicorns are real
    5) demon possesion( instead of chemical inbalances) are true
    6) God has no mercy Deuteronomy 7:2
    7) an everlasting place of pain and agony for the majority of humankind

plus I wonder what was God's intent here? Isaiah 13:15-18, Jeremiah 15:1-4, Mark 9:43-48 Ezekiel 9:5-7

  • November 18, 2013 at 4:47 am

The issue is that many of the texts weren't written by who it is claimed. Our were written nearly 100 years after the event.

Here's a thought experiment, in a court of law, ask Matthew, Mark, Luke and John what Jesus' last words on the cross were. you won't get a consistent answer.

  • November 18, 2013 at 6:27 am

I find that the very fact that all the sources cited in that list were all from other Christian sources with no actual scientific source cited. I cannot take anything that was said in this article as truth or even fact based since it being completely biased towards your point of view. Everything on that list would not stand up to any true scientific scrutiny.

  • November 18, 2013 at 6:42 am

Only believers of this myth will accept that it is true. No True Christian would dare actually research the claims tat this guy makes in his 10 things list. If any did they would soon see the lies used to sell this book. And as one who has actually looked into these stories, all this Whitney T. Kuniholm is doing is repeating the standard apologetic that all of these wannabe authors use. He has nothing new to add to the discussion.

I would suggest to those reading this column, to find all the “negative” comments about his work and go and check to see if what is claimed in those negative comments are true or not. You will be most surprised at what you find.

  • November 19, 2013 at 12:19 am

    ok lets start
    reason 1
there are Hundreds of inconsistencies in the bible alone
let alone in different versions of that fable
yea but the books about Plato, Aristotle and Socrates are read in more detail then the bible.
textbook case of a argument of majority.
when so many people believe it then it must be true.
    reason 2
to quote matt dillahunty, if you know new York exists does that prove there is a spiderman.
its not that when a few things in it are correct that the whole thing is correct.
    reason 3
sorry but most of the story's in the bible are hearsay
try reading this site for some idea how messed up it is

    reason 4
Josephus was indeed a historian but its a weak argument at best that he confirms the bible.
    reason 5
the bible is such a messed up collection of made up and despicable story's that if god really was the dictator of the story then he either is seriously messed up or god needs to articulate better.
    reason 6
the over 300 specific prophecies in the Old Testament that are fulfilled in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the New Testament are all non proven, pasted in after the facts, nitpicking over details, twisting meanings of words. and it still does not make sense
    reason 7
expert scrutiny, lol, then why are there so many contradictions in the bible.
    here a few examples
Is it folly to be wise or not?

PRO 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

ECC 1:18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

1CO 1:19: “For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”

    The sins of the father

ISA 14:21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

DEU 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
    reason 8
argument from authority, like your boss is always' right
    reason 9
nope indoctrinating, brainwashing and keeping the masses dumb and ignorant that is the way of religion
nope, the religious way is praying to get better
making loopholes to keep lawsuits at bay, it would be a nice gesture of the church if they extradited the previous pope to stand trail for his involvement in the cover up of pedophile priest scandals
    the fine arts,
yea tons of religious art because they have the money to buy it, whatever happened to give to the poor and starving.
working for human rights and even in the natural sciences…
the finer points of slavery in the bible and Creationism, enough said.
    reason 10
yea an easy convenient lie instead of a difficult and sometimes confusing truth.

try looking at it this way
on a universal scale are our lives les then insignificant, a near fraction of a second on the universal clock.
but that is what makes it so special.
that mere split second that one exists.
live a life of a explorer, expand your horizon, have an open mind, explore your fantasy but don't get lost in it
the real world is often more wondrous then fiction.
basically try to enjoy the life you have because its the only one you are sure of that you have.
but also be fair, if i want to enjoy my life i must also allow others to enjoy their life.

  • December 10, 2013 at 10:08 pm

You can try to be wise and special all you like, but you are a mortal human and will die. The bible says there is an afterlife, atheists disagree but they're just human thinking human and discovering things that humans can understand on this planet. Say there is a God and He created all, how many statements made by science would be false? I cannot trust humans, all my life they let me down, doctors, professors etc, they try to be wise and proud but they make so many mistakes because they are just mortal humans. Now people in the bible are also just humans not even scientist, mostly humble people not trying to know it all, but God worked with them and even told them in the last days people will mock and say “where is your God” and one religion and in my opinion it is evolution, not a religion but the people believe in it making it a “religion” created by humans. I dont care what people believe in, its a free world and if you want to be gay or serve satan or science or whatever it is your choice and I respect that. But I believe in the bible and if there is a God and you die, you will get judged and the wisdom you gained on earth wont save you then. Why cant you see God? If everyone saw God, why hope? Why trust? Where is free will then to make your own choices? He gave the bible, follow it or reject it as easy as that. He dont need to come down and prove himself to you… he is a superior being, you are like dust on a very small planet somewhere in the universe He created, His propery, He is the boss, you cannot order him around and not even if you dont even believe.. Live your +- 70 years and make your choices. I believe heaven and hell is real, but mortals wont know until death, little thing to seperate your 70years to give you the end result of your choices. But believe what you want. I dont want to push anyone into christianity, im making a statement just like the atheist and scientists can make mocking statements against my God. Science is good but I do not agree with evolution and big band theories.

  • December 13, 2013 at 3:32 am

The Bible does speak of dinosaurs, they were referred to as Behemoths. It also doesn't discriminate against gays, rather, of states that we should have compassion for one bretheran. Throughout human history we have NEVER seen evolution take place in a large scale.

  • December 14, 2013 at 12:48 pm

Thanks to everyone for a vigorous, passionate debate. I can't say I agree with every comment, but obviously this post struck a nerve. My challenge to anyone who claims the Bible is not true is this: read the Gospel of John then ask yourself, “What does this teach me about God?” And let me reveal my agenda. My prayer for those who oppose the Bible is that by honestly reading it they will realize just how much its Author loves them. That changes everything.

  • December 19, 2013 at 11:44 am

I feel compassion for anyone who has endured judgement on this earth by those who could be labeled as Christians. The biggest problem with Christianity is the fact that all Christians are sinners and fallen people. If the proof you provide for any religion is the quality of it's believers then here on this earth there can be no true religion. I have always found great refreshment in focusing on the “highest form” of Christianity: the life of Christ. I am not an apologetics genius or even someone who I would consider super spiritual. I just know that if you seek to find fault you will find, if you seek to find sin you will find it. The best “faith proof” I know of is that the Bible is the only true example of unconditional, undeserved mercy and sacrificial love in which the patron (for lack of a better word) sacrificed and willingly died for the lowest, meanest of beggars. I would proudly stand Jesus and his life up against any other in human existence as “proof” for the Love that is the standard of my faith.

God's love is there for you all, accept it as you will. It is freely offered

  • December 23, 2013 at 12:07 am

Why does it matter whether or not the Bible is true? Christians understand that the Bible is not valued for it's validity but with the stories it tells. The stories themselves explore the human condition, what it means to be a good person, and doing what is right in the face of persecution. The passages are so full of metaphors and morals that I'm sure scholars will be arguing over their meaning for a very long time.
Do we disregard stories of fiction just because they aren't true? No, their morals are taken to heart regardless actual events. The same can be said for the Bible.
I do not understand this obsession many Christians have with trying to prove that the events of the Bible actually happened. It does not matter. The validity of the Bible does not undermine your validity as a Christian. Or does the Bible mean so much to you that it must be 100% true for you to function? Faith is only a small part of what it means to be Christian. How you live your everyday life, how you treat others, how you treat yourself; that is what matters.

None of the auggestions that you have demonstrated identify the truth behind the Bible. In fact acceptance of many of the points including point 6 require presupposing that the Bible is already accurate and valid.

An argument doesnt simply make sense because one first believe it makes sense.

  • January 8, 2014 at 7:53 am

I would like to say one thing to all,why did the church brake all of there 10 sacred rules of life to push christianity on the world. All of those poor people that were killed in history for not taking the so called lord jesus christ as there savior, that is the reason I found this site tonite,I believe in a god called odin, and that's why they came up with the bible back in the day to snuff out good free thinking people!and guess what slowly but shirley people like me are waking up and seeing the old ways grab ourr hearts and minds back,in the bible it says there wiill be the end,yes there will be for the bible!

  • January 10, 2014 at 12:50 pm

  • January 18, 2014 at 2:26 am

My suggestion to any free thinking person is this: just read the Bible and then form an opinion. As I've said in other responses, try reading the gospel of John. The intellectually honest thing to do is read it yourself before coming to a conclusion.

If God is not real, then how do you explain music? Certain frequencies together (notes) make a chord which has a pleasent sound. Why are the principles of music always valid? Even animals recognize music (whale songs). Why do certain notes together sound pleasent and other notes together sound badly? Because music is a gift from God! Also, did you know that Darwin once said “…I remember well the time when the thought of the eye made me cold all over, but I have got over this stage of the complaint, and now small trifling particulars of structure often make me feel uncomfortable. The sight of a feather in a peacock's tail, whenever I gaze at it, makes me sick!”” Why? Because of the order involved. It is obvious the the peacocks feathers came to be by intelligent design. For anyone to suggest that eye on a peacocks feather “just happened” by evolution is insane. It is obvious that divine creation was involved. Think people! Think!

  • January 28, 2014 at 8:24 pm

Many of these “contradictions” being referred to are actually not contradictions at all. I appreciate an educated debate, but it is simply untrue to list contradictions that are not contradictions at all but are being taken out of context. I do not condone Christian apologetics taking biblical truths out of context to promote Christianity so I will not stand for attackers of the bible doing the same.

  • January 29, 2014 at 4:52 pm

If God exists – so would this comment!

  • January 29, 2014 at 9:19 pm

Each of us requires a different set of facts to conclude that there is a God. For some, it simply could be nature and its beauty, for others the complexity of the human body and for me it is science. Just take earth for example and its proximity to the sun. If the sun was 1″ closer or 1″ further away the earth would either freeze or melt.
I hope everyone can experience God while here on earth. Whether you believe in him or not, there still is God and whether you see him as nothing, he still is King. He doesnt become what we think him as and he does not disappear if we do not believe in him at all. The bible is so amazing, a book that can be read and understood as a child and a book that can capture and challenge the minds of the most sophisticated Greek and Hebrew professors. God will reveal himself to everyone I just hope that we learned from Isreal and our Heart lines up with our speech and we dont just say we desire Christ but that we live the desire out through obedience to his commands. Faith, Hope and Love, “and the greatest of these is love”….

i think this contradicts number 9 Christianity borrowed its central myths and ceremonies from other ancient religions. The ancient world was rife with tales of virgin births, miracle-working saviors, tripartite gods, gods taking human form, gods arising from the dead, heavens and hells, and days of judgment. In addition to the myths, many of the ceremonies of ancient religions also match those of that syncretic latecomer, Christianity. To cite but one example (there are many others), consider Mithraism, a Persian religion predating Christianity by centuries. Mithra, the savior of the Mithraic religion and a god who took human form, was born of a virgin; he belonged to the holy trinity and was a link between heaven and Earth; and he ascended into heaven after his death. His followers believed in heaven and hell, looked forward to a day of judgment, and referred to Mithra as “the Light of the World.” They also practiced baptism (for purification purposes) and ritual cannibalism—the eating of bread and the drinking of wine to symbolize the eating and drinking of the god’s body and blood. Given all this, Mithra's birthday should come as no surprise: December 25th; this event was, of course, celebrated by Mithra’s followers at midnight.

Mithraism is but the most striking example of the appearance of these myths and ceremonies prior to the advent of Christianity. They appear—in more scattered form—in many other pre-Christian religions.

also more reasons that the bible is fake not God but the bible we as men hath created
The Bible, Christianity's basic text, is riddled with contradictions. There are a number of glaring contradictions in the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments, and including some within the same books. A few examples:

“. . . God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.”
“And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham.”
    (Genesis 22:1)

“. . . for I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger forever.”
    (Jeremiah 3:12)
“Ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn forever. Thus saith the Lord.”
    (Jeremiah 17:4)

“If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.”
    (John 5:31, J.C. speaking)
“I am one that bear witness of myself . . .”
    (John 8:18, J.C. speaking)

    and last but not least:

“I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
    (Genesis 32:30)
“No man hath seen God at any time.”
    (John 1:18)
“And I [God] will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts . . .”
    (Exodus 33:23)

  • January 30, 2014 at 2:46 pm

Lets face it, even if you received a clear explanation of what you call “contradictions” listed above, you still would not believe. Faith in God and belief in the bible requires us to change(repentence), and honestly, thats what most people who do not embrace Christianity have a problem with. In all my years, I have never seen anyone argued into the kingdom of heaven…

    1 Corinthians 1:25

on the contrary I did believe before I started noticing loopholes in the bible and I do believe in God and I do believe there is a true bible but the kjv is corrupted. think like this the original bible has been passed down through generations and has been translated multiple times whose to say that they translated wrongly and corrupted the bible. I do believe IN GOD but I DO NOT BELIEVE IN MAN. who knows. I sure don't and if you would please enlighten me. I personally Love God and I have no regret in him but his sacred book has been left to the trifles of man to undignified so there you have it. point blank simple I will follow my heart and believe what it says unto me.

If all I had to lead me was my heart, I would probably find myself in a whole lot of trouble:)) I enjoy hearing and listening to people express there heart and mind, so thanks for responding and it does make me happy that, not only do you believe in God, but that you love him also. As for scripture, I sure hope God had a hand in preserving his word through man because I spend about 2hrs a day listening to it and reading it. I do not get caught up in which translation is most accurate. I use ESV study bible to read, I listen to KJV(Alexander Scorby), I got saved with the NIV and I can most closely relate to the NLT. Do you think God is disappointed in the preservation of his word? Which bible is “true”? Do you think God has the ability to preserve his word through man? Anyway, have a great weekend my friend. Oh, one more question, Do you attend church?

  • January 31, 2014 at 4:53 pm

Sometimes a person says – help me. And you say – do this.
    and they do't do it.
Such people are liars to others – and to themselves.

Scientifically accurate statements on the Scriptures which pre-dated man's ability to have discovered those truths for himself. Spericity of Earth, hydroligical cycle. an existance of an atmosphere, The Lord's understanding of the digestive process, are just a few concept which the bible reveals which predated man's ability to discover these truths for himself

The internal consistency of Scripture. The consistency of Angelic behavior. Throughout the Scriptures, we see a consistency of angelic behavior which the human authors of Scripture would not have corroberated on to maintain.

The Authors of Scripture record for us, most unwittingly, A consistent, Angelic frame of reference, A consistency which could not have been conspired, but a consistency we discover today looking back on those writing. As we study in Scripture the conduct of Angels, We begin to discover that their frame of reference is quite different from that of God or a person.

    1. Angels react to the countenance of God the Father

    Matt. 18:10
Revelation 16:5-6. In this context we actually see the angels encouraging God who is commanding that His wrath be poured out. It is because God, who is full of mercy, does not enjoy what he is about to do and the angels can see it upon his face.

    2. Unlike God, Angels stand ready to execute justice upon the wicked with no compunction whatsover.
    Revelation 16
    Revelation 21:9

    3. Angels are messengers to Gods elect and treat them kindly but feel no sympathy towards the plight of the wicked.

Matthew 28:4 And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
Matthew 28:5 But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
Matthew 28:6 “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Revelation 21:9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb's wife.”

Notice how in both of the above examples the angels are showing kindness towards God’s own but complete ambivalence towards those having no relationship to God.

    4. Angels do not have as part of their frame of reference, an understanding of the grace of redemption.

1 Peter 1:12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven — things which angels desire to look into.

Acts 10:3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius!”
Acts 10:4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?” So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.
Acts 10:5 “Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.

Why didn’t the angel visiting Cornelius just present the Gospel toward Cornelius? Because angels are not entrusted with that information. We never see angels in the Scriptures dispensing Gospel information. Did the authors of Scripture think to preserve this nuance concerning angels in the Scriptures? Or does this fact demonstrate the inspiration of Scripture? Scripture speak with remarkable consistency concerning issues of relative unimportance.

  • February 20, 2014 at 1:06 am

I guess it depends on which angels you are refering to, obviously not the fallen ones.

    1.Hebrews 13:2
Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
The Gospel has been given to earths inhabitants, so of course they are not entrusted with it, its our responsibility to spread the good news…

The biggest proof that the bible is truth (aside from the mass amount of prophetic scripture that has come to pass and the lack of any prophetic scripture that has failed to come to pass – besides those dealing with Jesus' second coming) would be the unbelievable amount of energy spent trying to extinguish and discredit scripture.

Think about it. If the Bible was not true then big deal, what harm does it present? Absolutely none, it convicts people to treat others very well. So your neighbor believes and LIVES BY the Bible, nice, chances are he won't be the one breaking into your house, hitting on your wife, telling lies about you, killing your family members, throwing wild parties with loud music late into the night, etc. Then why do people spend so much energy trying to eliminate and discredit the Bible? Because it convicts them of their unjust behavior and they love their unjust behavior and don't want to be told it is unjust because that hurts their feelings. So they spend all this energy to find all the unjust things people CLAIMING to be following the Bible are doing or have done and say see – hypocrites! the Bible changes nothing. Or they fill pages of books with inconsistencies in Bible text and say, see – you can't trust this book. Why such a strong response against the Bible? Read the book, The Great Controversy and you will discover this reason in great detail. This controversy will only continue to get worse through out time until it becomes so unbearable that …, then Jesus will come – just as it was in the days of Noah.

Back to the 100% fulfillment of prophetic scripture (excluding those around the 2nd coming). Something like one third of the bible, 600+/- prophetic scriptures have come true. Ask yourself, if my friend started giving me stock market tips and everyone (100%) came true, how many tips would you need to see come true before you started investing your hard earned money into his stock tips? I am quite sure it would be a whole lot less than 600. But 600 right guesses about the future with 100% accuracy doesn't convince you that the Bible is true? There has got to be a higher power at work to cause one to reason that way! Read The Great Controversy. I hope you have a nice eternity.

Nope. The OT clearly states that homosexuals should be stoned to death.

  • March 26, 2014 at 9:42 pm

People on both sides can make many arguments, but the Bible was written so long ago that there's really no way to totally prove that it is true or not. There are many questions that are not being asked that would reveal many holes in the list above. Most people that WANT to believe are not going to very motivated to keep asking those questions. Doubts are a good and useful tool for getting to the truth, and what is REALLY true will always stand unaffected by someone's doubts. I encourage everyone to keep searching for truths, avoid snap-judgements, don't jump to conclusions, don't just blindly follow the people around you, and don't just do whatever feels right. Put in the effort. Either way, you'll be glad you did.

For me, I like science because it's a school of thought that is self-correcting. It NEVER stops asking those questions. I'm not seeing that we live in a world with events that are truly supernatural. So I believe the Bible was just written by people only. However, I believe God may exist. I am a Deistic Agnostic and proud of it. I believe in Love Ethics. My religious beliefs are not unlike those of Thomas Jefferson. I find many like-minds among Spiritual Naturalists and Unitarian Universalists. Peace.

God made light and dark at the beginning, how it was possible, when he made sun and moon on 3rd day?

  • April 3, 2014 at 4:07 pm

The light in the beginning could be interpreted as light from other stars, but obviously it's no authority on cosmology. The 3rd day is only about 9.3 billion years off. And by the way folks, scientists can detect light that has been traveling for over 13 billion years.

  • April 7, 2014 at 8:07 pm

If one were to believe the Bible “stories” then everyone in existence today is descended from Noah. I prefer to believe in the messages, therein lies the truth. There is but one commandment regardless of whom one believes is the creator. “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” That equation would bring us peace.

First I would like to say that not just anyone can walk on water. Only jesus could walk on water because he is A.son of god and B.the only human to have never sjnnedJesus walked on water to save a ship in a storm. In order to prove it, he had someone walk to him. Next technically he is not a zombie. He defeated death and arose on the third day. Next, god won't help if you don't want to be helped. And clearly you don't want to be. If you want to, take the time to actually learn about Christ. Accept him in your heart and I'll be praying for you in the mean time

Hey you said Old testament…. after Jesus was born, in the new testament, he established a new view on all sin

  • April 11, 2014 at 8:51 pm

I have some questions. How can you continue to hold today's Bible as God's word (or “God's Breath”), when there are almost 15,000 noted differences from the oldest Bible in recorded history, to the Bible most commonly used today? Also, How can you continue to support today's Bible, when you know that man has changed, manipulated, and misinterpreted the Bible since its creation? Having Faith can explain the belief in God, but it would not explain why anyone would follow guidance that we know at the bare minimum was influenced by man. I believe there is a God, Christianity just reeks of man made hub bub. So my biggest question is, what outside of Faith makes you certain that your religion is the real one? Raised as a Christian, evolved into an agnostic.

  • April 12, 2014 at 9:24 pm

I really like the previous post. I would only add that I have serious doubts that there is anything supernatural in the world … so I can only believe that the Bible was written by people alone. I too, am not saying there is no God. And almost all of 1 Cor 13 is dear to my heart.

I cannot believe in 2014 there are still people who actually believe in the bible as literal truth. You people are psychotic at best and should all be prevented from teaching a single bullshit word of this to your children.

  • April 16, 2014 at 9:35 pm

I have never read do much BS in a very long time.

So many of those points are misleading at best and others are just wrong.

Archeological evidence? really there is still debate if Sodom and Gamorah even existed….there is no evidence they ever did.

Collaberating accounts? There are only 4 documents that Christians regularly use to show that sources outside the Bible refer to Biblical events. There is speculation as to what those records are even refering too.

Prophetic Accuracy? It's easy to make something that has happened fit into the prophecy after it has already happened. Prophicies are easy to make happen…they are so vague and easy to interpret you can make it mean anything. That is why every generation of believers have thought themselves to be in the End Times.

Greater Influence on laws? That is a total lie. Most of the 10 Commandments are illegal in the Western world(and most of the rest to). Not killing/stealing/lying(Bearing false Witness) are laws that every culture and country have. Even before Christianity arose as a rebel Jewish Sect. If the Bible influenced our laws…we would be MURDERING people who are not Christian, working on the Sabbath, or commit adultery(and all those who have cheated on their spouses I know of have been Christians). It is illegal to beat disobediant children and last I checked Slavery is also illegal even though it is fully supported and allowed in the Bible.

Thankfully for the author the Internet has no rules stating you need to post truthful information.

If the Bible is true…where are these talking snakes, or when will the sun stay in one spot in the sky for a whole day again?

  • April 17, 2014 at 6:31 pm

I have read all your comments and cannot come to a conclusion , if you are a reborn Christian or not.
You have the knowledge of the Bible, very well too, but no faith or belief. You have the wisdom of the World and not the wisdom of God. I suggest you read again the N.T. with a new approach, say a little prayer to have the guidance of the H.S. and start reading again.
You probably don't even know that the Holy Spirit is God ( Holy Trinity) or you don't believe in that, at all.? Don't do the mistake of mixing science with The Word of God. They are two completely different things. Jesus said we have to be like children to enter into the Kingdom of God. Try to have faith and Belief and not Religion.
As for your last remark ” about talking snakes and sun to stay in one spot in the sky” I am afraid you will be disappointed because in the Kingdom of Heaven or God there will be no sun, because his GLORY will be our LIGHT. No offence meant but just my point of view . thank you

Again, you mix scientist this time what he said /argued with the catholic church and he was a christian before he died. Good for him. But I am trying to tell you that what God wants really from a person is a personal relationship with Him, that's why He sacrificed His only Son for you and me.all you have to do is just accept this with all your heart and you life will
completely change. Somewhere in your comments you said you love God and yet you try to
prove His word wrong.in fact you did not answer my question but tried to throw a new
thought you had that moment. No one obliges you not even God to follow Him by force. If
you really love God , you will eventually find Him. As I told you, we are fortunate to have the
H S in us ,but we have to listen to what He has to say…Did I feel a little annoyance in your reply or was it only my imagination?signed Ar

  • April 18, 2014 at 4:44 am

There nothing here to mix science with except falsities based on wishful thinking and fear. My main argument is with thinking the Bible is not much more than myth. Some of the myth is beautiful, insightful, and inspirational … until people say it's God's word. Then all the good parts get associated with this crazy talk about supernatural things that don't exist. You don't need the Bible to love life, love others, and have rich and fulfilling life filled with truth and goodness.

“What we need is not the will to believe, but the wish to find out, which is exactly the opposite.” (Bertrand Russell) … and that what science is about. The Universe is the book we read with science. If someone claims to love God, why wouldn't they want to learn all they can about the Universe through science? Science is a self-correcting process while ancient writings can never be proven.

  • April 18, 2014 at 10:31 am

All these you are saying is again from the wisdom of the World.
You still avoid to answer any of my questions. It's your right , but I think you definitely are afraid to find the real God, but God loves you as you are and He will talk to you even if you are a stubborn person. Would you say Isaiah is a myth ? He knew the world was round . Look what it says in Isaiah Chapter 40 vs 22 It is he that sitteth upon the CIRCLE,,,, of the earth……..” ( the circle )??! Who gave him that wisdom? My Greek Bible says” He is sitting on the round of the earth” . Anyway, God Bless you plenty and I'll pray that soon you have a personal visit from HIM , dear Anonymous. You are special for Him, and He will find you and use you when you humble yourself in front of Him and you will see that the knowledge you have does not count in front of God.Bless you again

    To Whitney T. Kuniholm

I came across to your page accidently and found your 10 points very interesting and helpful when talking to someone who either is not at all Christian or has just a Religion which is called Christianity.
These 10 points will be very helpful here in my country who are all “Christians “ without Christ. Unfortunately the Mother of our Lord is raised and praised more than our Lord in their Churches. I might as well tell you, that I live in Athens, Greece.
Unfortunately, 99% of the population is Orthodox Christians.
Somehow God talked to me from a Foreign Radio Station 13 years ago, and I started looking for a church.
And I found my present church “A Charismatic Church.”
    God works in marvelous ways.
Of course we are heretics for the Orthodox people but it doesn’t bother us at all.
God has used me with moslem people , and they have accepted Christ and have been baptized in our churches. It’s easier to speak to someone who has no Christian background at all , specially when you show them LOVE.
Thank you for giving me this chance to be able to write in your blog pages
God Bless you to carry on what you are doing!
    Thank you again

  • April 18, 2014 at 5:13 pm

Yes, what I am saying is wisdom from the world. It's not good or bad. It's all we have. I am not afraid to find the truth no matter what it is. That is the essence of science. Perhaps you are afraid to not find God and have jumped to conclusions about the Bible. Yes, Isaiah is a myth. The Bible is a large collection of books. Anyone can find many things that correspond to reality, and many things that don't. To say the Bible is the word of God is to believe that supernatural things happen in the world. I don't see any supernatural things happening, but I do see many tendencies of human nature that lead me to be decidedly skeptical. “If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.” – Descartes

  • April 18, 2014 at 6:50 pm

Wisdom of the World is not everything we have. There is supernatural things going on( we call it the Chrisma /Gift of the Lord) in this world and it’s given to those who have that special connection with the Creator, and deep faith.
It doesn’t matter if you are a mathematician or a scientist or doctor or whatever. The” supernatural power” is a gift given by the Creator through the HS when you ask for it. Read A Cor.ch.12 vs 4-11.
The HS will lead you or stop you if you are wrong or, if it is not for you. Always listen to what the Creator says. Don’t hurry, but wait for a sign .He will give it . This is what faith is about. This is what obedience to the word Is about. This is what you receive when you STUDY the word of God , not just read.
You know a lot about science and maths., which surely you have achieved by reading and studying , or may be you are one. Good for you ! God wants scientists , doctors and he really blesses doctors who are doing their job conscientiously .
You can do the same with the Word of God, not try to find mistakes and contradictions, but try to find how the plan of God is working TODAY in our world.

PS .Do you mean that Isaiah ch. 53 is a MYTH?

  • April 19, 2014 at 5:08 pm

I was a Christian and studied the Bible for many years. If it helps you to live in clothed in myth, go for it. I am not afraid of the truth, I am patient enough for science to unfold it, and except what is currently unknowable.

  • April 19, 2014 at 6:59 pm

I used to think knowledge was power and the challenge of unraveling complicated bible text enjoyable, but the simplistic lifestyle seems to be far better…John 3:16

  • April 19, 2014 at 7:58 pm

I honestly don't understand you. May be I am …simple minded! From what I understand you state that you are now living “simplistic lifestyle” while studying the Bible was a complicated challenge! What about all these Science knowledge you have? Did you wake up one morning and you had it all ? Or you spent night after night in front of your computer to acquire the knowledge? Is this the simplistic lifestyle of yours? And what does John 3:16 have to do with this?! And one more thing. You still think knowledge is power, only about the wrong thing.

God did not plan the abortions, he only had a foreknowledge of them. To say that God planned the abortions is like saying that God made man sin. The devil tempted Eve, and when Eve followed the serpent, the relationship between God and man was lost. God did not make Eve and Adam sin, he gave them a choice. Adam and Eve chose out of their own free will to do the only thing God instructed them not to do. If God made humans do exactly what he wanted, there would be no sin. However, God gave man a choice, and man chose to disobey. Therefore, God did not plan these abortions, but rather had a foreknowledge that they would happen.

  • May 9, 2014 at 2:20 am

I would personally remove Reason #5 from this list, as it's sufficiently explained by Reason #7.

“The Bible contains 66 books written over 1,500 years by 40 different writers but it tells one 'big story' of God's plan of salvation that culminated in Jesus Christ.”

“A book had to have been written by an Apostle or someone in their immediate circle, had to conform to basic Christian faith and had to be in widespread use among many churches.”

By your own admission, the bible is remarkably consistent in its overall message due to the fact that contrary texts were selectively excluded at the time of its compilation.

  • May 11, 2014 at 1:53 am

I would just like to mention. If you was God would you help someone who didn't believe you exist. Do you go to a strangers house. Expect nothing from someone who is nothing to you. You Godless people want a miracle. In the words of Jesus “there will be no sign from God to a wicked generation.

  • May 11, 2014 at 5:28 am

Deuteronomy 4:2 ye shall not add unto the word which I command you neither shall ye diminish aught from it that ye may keep the commandments of the lord your god! Now can someone that believes in the bible explain to me why this is not followed by any religious believers, worshipers or whatever yall call yourself? Why do the bible seem to be very similar to stories from greek mythology which was dated by physical evidence to take place 2nd century bc? Why does the bible say the earth is a circle and is held by pillars and doesnt move and has 4 corners ? The earth is a sphere not a circle which is flate and a sphere doesnt have corners! The bible also states that in matthew 4:8 the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them? How can you see the whole kingdom if the world is round ? Sounds like some greek mythology mt olympus and almighty zues. How could the human race start with just 2 people ? And if so y would god be against insest? We all related right according to the bible ! Then explain the different ethnicities ? If god love everybody then why slavery ? If you believe in the bible then why dont you follow the real then commandments not the one everyone is taught today but the real commandment were god says to moses that these are the ten commandments cause the ones followed now ,moses threw down then stones and broke them before he ever read them to everybody.Exodus 34:28I. Thou shalt worship no other god.

II. Thou shalt make thee no molten gods.

III. The feast of unleavened bread thou shalt keep.

IV. Six days thou shalt work, but on the seventh day thou shalt rest.

    V. Thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest,
and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end.

VI. Thrice in the year shall all your men children appear before the Lord God.

VII. Thou shalt not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leaven.

VIII. Neither shall the sacrifice of the feast of the passover be left unto the morning.

IX. The first of the firstfruits of thy land thou shalt bring unto the house of the LORD thy God.

    X. Thou shalt not seethe a kid [ie, a young goat] in his mother’s milk. Explain to how the things that happened in this world today isnt because of people reading the bible I.e slavery , the bible states that isrealites were to be slaves and the bible do describe them as darker skin, Christopher Columbus how followed the bible thought the world was flate came to America and say darker skin people in which the bible say are slaves but were native American now we got slavery and the bible tells how mich to sell slave which happened it said what to do to slave when they didnt obey including whipping and killing ! So honestly black people should be mad at the bible and god if its really his words! And yes I am black. Before you say I should read the bible I have twice and instead of becoming a believer I laugh at how dumb it sounds and how can someone read this and take it seriously? Your taught to believe and dont ask questions or you going to hell type stuff but if u really read it with out a bias thought already you would see the issues with this so called word from god the bible

I, for many years, did not believe in God because I experienced so many difficult and painful things in my own life. Perhaps it was not so much that I did not believe in God, but rather I knew of this God but couldn't believe that he could be so cruel as to allow so many horrible/unthinkable acts to take place in this world. Even though I went to church when I was a child, and had knowledge of some of the more well know areas scripture (moses, easter, christmas, adam and eve etc) they were not real to me – simply stories.
About 25 years ago, God came into my life and revealed himself to me personally in so many ways and that I could not deny his existence any longer. He did this to me not just one time but on many occasions over a period of a few years that I finally, after he let me know that he wanted me to serve him, agreed to do so. However, I still struggled with so many of the “bible stories”. They seemed illogical and far fetched even though I finally knew God was real. What started me on the path to at least opening up my understanding a bit was a book by C.S. Lewis entitled “Mere Christianity”. This book does not answer the detailed arguments but was for me, a beginning. I can say at this point in my life, after being in different churches and studying scripture for over 20 years, God does desire to have a real, true relationship experience with people. It seems illogical but it isn't. I am sure that my comments will not convince many of you here, nor are they here for arguments sake…but I have been where you are and will be praying for you.

  • May 22, 2014 at 8:34 pm

“revealed himself to me” … what is any rational person supposed to make of that?

“illogical and far fetched” Bible stories. Yes, so many of them are, aren't they?

I know a lot about Christianity first hand, and have seen many people that have spend a lifetime studying and rationalizing the Bible. The complex systems of rationalization are quite impressive.

If you study other religions and history enough, you start to see how it all came together with many borrowed and shared stories and concepts. You don't have to play all these Christianity games to be good, spiritual, social, loving, loved … You can even believe in God.

“If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.” – Descartes

Take a look around; there are no supernatural things happening! All ancient writings were written by people alone. There is no magical kind of inspiration that only comes to certain people at certain times. I like parts of the Bible not unlike how I like parts of other books … and movies. The Bible has no monopoly on love ethics or spirituality.

Faith … as in blind faith … is overrated. It's a mistake. It's a false answer used to try to plug up all the holes.

  • May 25, 2014 at 9:32 pm

If all the holes were plugged up, there would be no such thing as faith

  • May 27, 2014 at 5:38 am

I didn't say the holes were plugged up. Faith is used to TRY to plug up the holes.

A brave and honest seeker of truth is willing to accept that some things are currently unknowable while continuing to learn about the cosmos.

“What we need is not the will to believe, but the wish to find out, which is exactly the opposite.” (Bertrand Russell)

To the Anonymous that posted continuously his “contradictions”. Honestly, I personally do not see these as contradictions. I just see them as what God does. He is visible. He is invisible. Well, maybe he just does both. Now, I cannot directly quote the bible like many of the people in the previous posts because simply I have not read it. I did not get indoctrinated with my religion (Catholic), it just came as common sense to me.

Now, in response to the theory of Evolution, I believe it is in fact the truth. It just makes sense. But I do not see it as proof that God isn't real. In fact, just the opposite. Everything has got to happen somehow, it is a little Naive to say that God is not responsible for things in nature when some of them nobody knows how they happen. True, there is a central theory surrounding evolution, but by no means is that the only one out there. Anything is possible.

Now, in respect to there religions, (WARNING: My views and opinions do not represent other people opinions on the matter, for they may appear to be, well… A little out there) who is to say that any one religion is the complete and whole truth? Personally, I believe that it is really based on perspective. Christians, like myself, believe that when we die we either go to Heaven or Hell. (I apologize if any of these next statements are incorrect, I admit to being a tad bit ignorant on these religions, and Christianity also I guess) Hindu's believe in reincarnation. Buddhists too. Those who follow Islam believe in Paradise and Hell. Now, my point behind all of these is I believe that nobody really understands what the afterlife is. It is too enigmatic. In the shadows if you will. Partially seen, but never completely understood. This is also true for how the world works. Anyways, The Afterlife is different depending on your perspective. Christians perceive Heaven or Hell when they die. Hindu's and Buddhist's perceive reincarnation. Muslims Paradise or Hell. I wish I could explain my theories better. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not out to convert people into my beliefs. That's the beauty of it, you can believe whatever you want. It just depends on your point of view.

Now, by no means does this describe all non-believers that have posted. Just a certain handful. In fact, most non-believer I have met have been quite respectful. But again, a certain handful… This handful seem to be displeased that Christians are in fact Christians. Never before have I seen an atheist try and argue against Islam, Hinduism, or Buddhism, to name a few. I believe that you people do in fact not agree with our beliefs, or those of these other religions. I just want to ask a friendly question. No hostility, you don't even have to answer if you don't feel like it. Why does it seem to be solely the Christian faith? Now, I know what some people think when I say this, “Ohh, now he is whining about how we always go after him. Ha. Ha.” I assure you this is not the reason. I do not see your insults as insulting or your sarcasm as mockery. I really don't care what your opinions about me are, or about my beliefs. I just want to ask a friendly, valid, (as far as I have seen) question. In fact, I believe that this whole “argument” has been an exercise in futility. Your opinions clearly won't change because of anything I say, or anyone else says. If you are going to change your opinions, it will be by your own doing, not by any of ours. And the same goes for my opinions.

If anyone has anything to add, or they disagree with me, I would love to hear it. I am open to anything.
    -Sincerely- A Stephen King Fan.

A high percentage of internet users are in America, and probably a majority of Theists on the internet are Christian. Many Americans, even if they are not Christan, have more knowledge of Christianity than other religions. This is probably why it seems that Christianity is criticized more the other religions. As for me, I reject anything that has a supernatural aspect. I'm open to Deists, Pandeists, Agnostics, and Weak Atheists, but I disagree with Theists because they accept a supernatural aspect. However, I do have many friends that are Christian, but most of them are very progressive, don't interpret the Bible literally, and mostly focus on the social and community service aspects of their churches. Some of them that think a little more like me, have moved to Unitarian Universalist churches where you don't have to believe in supernatural stuff, and can continue to participate in community service and fellowship.

  • June 1, 2014 at 12:38 am

Nice to know. I too do not interpret the Bible literally. It was written by people, and people will never fully understand what lies around them and what lies after them. I thank you for your input.
I guess I just don't understand why some people have to turn a friendly article into a debate/argument. Not necessarily you Anonymous on May,30. Just a couple atheists on a website posted as the “Essential Bible Blog” just kind of strikes me as people who want to just insult people with different opinions than them. Anyway, I appreciate the answer, it really clears things up.

  • June 1, 2014 at 5:33 am

To Stephen King Fan. If you have not read the Bible, I do not think you can give opinion about it . It is like you have not read a book and you get into a discussion about it and give your opinion. If you are a Catholic in religion , good . But you have to read the Bible to know what you are talking about. Christianity is a faith, a belief, which you will understand only if you are genuinely interested in it. Our Lord Jesus Christ who is the Son of God did not come onto this world to bring Christianity, but to make us know who our creator is and how we can have a personal relationship with Him. Jesus said I am the way, whoever accepts me accepts my Father.I do not want to quote the Bible here, but I suggest sincerely to you instead of losing precious time with these two anonymous people contradicting each other to open your New Testament and start reading it.the whole Bible is written by the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you will find out when you start reading it. And one last suggestion from me, take it or leave it, start reading from The book of John. Then go back to Matthew m,Mark and Lucas .It is easier to understand and go on. GOD BLESS YOU AND LEAD YOU WHILE YOU ARE READING IT. MY PRAYERS WILL BE WITH YOU.

  • June 1, 2014 at 4:30 pm

A Stephen King Fan, I'm glad you appreciate my comment as I do yours. As education slowly marches forward globally, I hope and predict that there will be a decrease in those that interpret ancient writings literally. I don't think everyone has to think like me, but I certainly would like to see people who have spiritual interests find a path that is copacetic with science. There are many options along those lines.

  • June 4, 2014 at 8:58 pm

Ar, as a response to your opinion, aren't you doing the same thing to me as you say I am doing to the Bible? Judging me without knowing me? To be completely frank, I do not appreciate your *quote unquote* Lecture. I know what I know and I know how I know it, it is really none of your business what I should be doing…
I also bet you have gone against the Bible, for the Bible bans
-Letting your hair become unkempt (10:6)
    -Touching an unclean animal (5:2)
    -Tearing your clothes (10:6)
-Eating an animal which doesn’t both chew cud and has a divided hoof (cf: camel, rabbit, pig) (11:4-7)
    -Mixing fabrics in clothing (19:19)
    -Trimming your beard (19:27)
-Cutting your hair at the sides (19:27)
-Not standing in the presence of the elderly (19:32)
-Entering a place where there’s a dead body as a priest (21:11) Tough for Funerals
    -Selling land permanently (25:23)
See, now obviously some of these are ridiculous. Clearly these are the words of humans. God doesn't care about our hair or whether we have mixed fabrics, he just cares whether we are good people.

A Stepen King Fan let me put a few things right . I am from a mixed marriage but my mother being an Armenian orthodox ,I was brougt up typically as an Armenian Orthodox which means going to church every Sunday morning ….keeping xmas and Easter in the usual manner as typical catholics do too, I suppose . I holy communion twice a year, and so on. I had a religion but no faith ,I didnot even think if God was real or just a myth. Then I married a very nice Greek guy and we came to live in his country . It was here that I got more dissapointed than ever because the church
priest looked at me as a heretic because I was not a Greek Orthodox but an Armenian orthodox. That is when I started reading the NT to ffind out where Jesus writes about these things….and of course I found nothing relating tags as unfortunately we Christians created the tags. I read the NT several times and looked for a church which teaches from the word and has no tags and there I found or rather the opposite ,The Lord found me. I was reborn (as the N T says and accepted Jesus as my Saviour. When I read your first remark on this page , you reminded me of myself …I was a good person hurt nobody and had lots of friends , but had no freedom in my soul…something was missing in my life and that was my Lord Jesus.
God never presses anybody ,he created us with a sound mind, so we are responsible for each and every action and we have to give an account to God for each action one day.
This is what I have understood from the NT and this is my belief. I am sorry if in any way I insulted you in my previous remark but whatever it was that hurt you I deeply regret . Thank you for reading this and God Bless.

The Golden Verse of the New Testament

“John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
I am asking myself if there is any other relegion that talks about this kind of LOVE……Just my thoughts…..

  • June 7, 2014 at 9:07 pm

Oh! another beautiful verse in the same Chapter , that is John 3:5,6,7 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
It was just another thought I had as I was reading my Bible……….

  • June 7, 2014 at 9:22 pm

Isaiah 53 What a prophetic word it is

verses 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken”

yes, for the whole world he was crucified. And His crime was ? Really why was He crucified? He only cured sick people and loved every sinner US. Thank you Jesus

These “Top 10 Reasons the Bible is True” do a really good job in supporting the idea that the Bible is not of God. It falls completely short. It's laughable that the words evidence and scrutiny are used. There is no detail. It's human nature to make these mistakes. People see what they want to see. Fortunately we have science which is exactly what we need to help us avoid these blunders.

Thank you for putting the breath of life in me and a sound mind to accept you as my Creator .Amenn

At the Last supper Jesus explained to His disciples that He was going to be arrested and judged by the Pharisees and be put to death. The disciples didn’t understand much, then but only after His resurrection they remembered His words at the Last supper.
Acts 1:2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
    Acts 2
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

  • June 8, 2014 at 9:53 am

Tomorrow is Pentecost. I pray that you genuine believers in Jesus be baptized by the Holy Spirit. It is a gift from the Lord.

    Isaiah 45:23
By myself I have sworn; from my mouth has gone out in righteousness a word that shall not return: ‘To me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear allegiance.’

    Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

    Revelation 1:7
Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

Today is HS Day. When you are baptized with the HS, then you experience super natural things.
God's plan is always excellent. He didn't leave the disciples alone , but as Jesus had promised He sent the HS. The Holy Spirit will be with us as long as the church is here. When the “Prince” of this world comes( which is very soon) to govern this world, there wont be Church or HS . The thought of that gives me shivers.

Top 10 Reasons The Bible is True, I agree fully and don't bother with questions and answers about that subject. The Bible is TRUE.

He was born about 2000 years ago, in a strange way. He lived poorly and helped His father as a Carpenter. As a baby He made a King tremble for his Throne; as a child he saddened the educated Pharesees and as a grown up He controlled the power of Nature (The rough sea,) He opened the eyes of blind people, and raised dead people. He never paid for anything by money . He never wrote any books, and yet no bookshop in this world would ever have space for all the books that are written about Him. He never composed any music, and yet there are hundreds of hymns about Him and hundreds of musicians have composed music about Him. He never establised any school, and yet people who were His students could have stood up in any school in the world, with their knowledge. He never had an army, never enrolled a soldier, and yet world Leaders who came after Him, couldn't have as many volunteer followers as He has (NOW)….

The names of big Leaders that came during the centuries didn't remain, but just vanished. , but the name of this Man is known to almost everyone for 2000 years. When He was 33years old, He was betrayed from one of His followers, another one denied Him, and all the others abandoned Him . Hos own people asked for His death sentence., a Roman Governor agreed to that, and He was crucified ….And yet, the grave couldn't hold Him The Heavens opened to receive Him.

He is the One whom God appointed as Judge for alive and dead people when it is time….(very soon)

The name of the Person is JESUS. Which means God is our Saviour.

    Is He yousr Saviour?

Many people just see what they want to see, and the only purpose for rational thought is to support their snap-judgements based on emotion. False schools of thought build from there.

Science, on the other hand, is a school of thought that is self-correcting. False ways can't go very far.

    To Anonymous of June 11,2014

I had seen your remark but as I said I don t want to comment on anybody s remark any more. For me the Bible is the Absolute truth. I received this letter in my e mail, from ten reasons….this morning .and I opened it….Since you insist for an answer here you are ! The Bible is the only self correcting book I met. Before you start your new day you can read a chapter from the NT. Your day will be more calm, more productive, and more blessed If you give Thank to the Creator for what you have, every day, your health, your family, your dear friends, your peace, your food , and many other things . Give me a chapter of a science book that you can read in the morning and have a calm day! And give me an example of a science book which will make you self correcting.Science has done a lot of good things, but look at the wars and massacres that are being done today with what science created. Does that give you any peace now?Have a…..peaceful sleep,!

  • June 22, 2014 at 4:05 pm

Both science and religion have been used as tools for good and bad. The term “self-correcting” means that a system of thought corrects itself or a person corrects his/her self. If a system of thought corrects a person, it not “self-correcting”, it's “learning” or “inspiration”. The system of thought and the person are separate.

Too me science and scientific discovery are very inspiring. It's awesome to learn about the Cosmos … to look up at the stars and know that we evolved from stardust. It connects us to everything in the universe. And I'm not saying that a God didn't start it all, but the God of the literal Bible is ridiculous. To think that we just magically appeared part way through the awesome development of the universe is a disappointing idea. And that God went around hiding fossils to fool us is ridiculous as well.

The Bible doesn't change. It's stagnant and old. Science changes, adapts, and grows. People with courage adapt and grow with it. The love ethics of the Bible have been improved upon using science, psychology, and philosophy. Limiting yourself to one book seems ridiculous.

“I call that mind free which resists the bondage of habit, which does not mechanically copy the past, nor live on its old virtues: but which listens for new and higher monitions of conscience, and rejoices to pour itself forth in fresh and higher exertions.” – William Ellery Channing

“In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.” – Carl Sagan

  • June 23, 2014 at 7:18 am

You are right. The Bible does not change it s the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. Have in mind though that whatever came out of the mouth of God has come true. Not only creation but the prophetic word. Obviously you don t follow these things, I mean how today s worlds political developments have been prophesied in the old testament and in Revelation. So there is no need for God to self correct Himself. But science has to because it does mistakes. That s the difference between God s Word and Sience

  • June 24, 2014 at 7:52 am

Like I said, people see what they want to see. Prophecies are no more real than the psychic powers of a swindling fortune teller. Enlightenment comes through the methods of the scientists and skeptics. Over time, religions will fall under the veil of myth, and biblical stories can finally be heard, and in some cases enjoyed, without the misguided preaching of severally exaggerated implications.

  • June 25, 2014 at 4:18 am

    CORRECTION: severely exaggerated implications.

  • June 27, 2014 at 7:26 am

    Dear Whitney

I have an interest in seeking the truth, because that is the basic philosophy of Hinduism.
Unlike Christianity and Muslim religions, which do not allow any questioning, Hinduism
is based on search for the truth. No heresy is performed even if I question words ascribed to God.

I have studied Bible, Quoran, Buddhist literature along with Hinduism.

I sincerely believe that Christianity did the wrong thing by accepting Old Testament in toto as God's word.
Old Testament, full of falsities and evil deeds (genocide by Jews) belongs to Jews, who themselves considered
Jesus as a blasphemer. Most of the old testament has no archaeological proof and some of it is outright
inconsistent with our present knowledge. God could not have made mistakes. So it clearly amounts to that the
people who wrote it were illiterates, who for unknown purpose, wrote it as if out of the hat. Seems more like
1001 Arabian Tales. How can you explain the Genesis story, Adam being born around 4500 BC, Tabernacle,
Noah's flood, God being a guide nearly every day etc etc etc.

To me a much better explanation is that Moses and Aron wanted to lord it over the Jews so they created the story that they had regular audiences with God. Moses got Aron installed as the high priest and collected huge wealth in the name of offerings. Whenever there was any revolt, Moses will say that he had an audience with God, and God will get angry if there is any disobedience.

Also it is repeatedly said that “I am the God of Abraham, I am the God of Moses, I am the God of Isaac.”
By this, the so called God testifies that He is not a universal God, but only the God of the Jews.It would have been much better
to let Him remain just there – as an imperfect God of Jews. Why suddenly God has stopped giving personal audiences to the mighty Jews? Also, why did the Jewish God not save them from the holocaust? All this raises serious doubts about the Jewish God being nothing but a figment of Jewish Priest imagination.

Also, God is all love and infinite and everlasting. He is perfect. A perfect thing can never change by the very definition.
By changing it becomes imperfect. So, by saying God became angry and sought vengeance, you are saying He
is an imperfect God. So, the concept of God in the old testament is a very incorrect concept, of illiterate people, with even the basic philosophical ability. Even the concept of the day of judgement, Hell and Heaven are completely created to force people into fear and submission. God does not work by fear, but by love.

I think Christians should ponder over these facts. Accepting Jesus does not mean that you should take Judaism lock stock and barrel. The Roman church made a huge error in doing that. It will be better to redress it at some stage.

The author of the posts in your first link makes a lot of ignorant remarks. Many statements are assumed, taken out of context, or misquoted.

The second link you gave was much better. Some of the points were pretty weak, though. It's interesting how all of this points to Catholicism more than Protestantism. Everyone is just different levels of crazy.

Unfortunately for both links, they were too flawed and biased to be used as real proof against the Bible. They could easily be argued against.

Soery to poke holes, but the principles of “music” are not always valid. It's always based on acoustical physics in relation to harmonic frequencies, whether higher or lower in the overtone series. The perception of intervallic consonance and dissonance is not consistent over time. It has changed increasingly throughout the ages. It also changes based on locale, age, and personal preferences. Music is a gift from God, however, and we will use it however we can to bring people closer to Him.

  • July 3, 2014 at 7:41 pm

I think many people make the mistake of believing God does not exist simply because there are bad things on earth. Yes, cancer, diseases, natural disasters, and death are all terrible things, but I would propose that these things were not brought on by God, but are a direct result of our sin. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.” There are earthly consequences for all of our sins, but we always have the option of turning to Christ, falling on our faces before him, and handing over every part of our lives to the perfect creator.

On this site there are a lot of wild claims about fulfilled prophecies (300 of them? Others have claimed lower numbers) but no one has offered any clue as to where a list can be found (let alone offered to provide one!) No wonder non-christians think it is all a big bluff!! I have spent years looking for such things without finding more than a dozen, and most of those were a bit stretched, so here is the challenge: Give us the list or stop making claims that can't be sustained.

  • July 11, 2014 at 10:03 pm

I am sure a simple GOOGLE of “bible prophecy fulfillment” could reveal all that you desire. 300? I don't know, nor do I care. I am not caught up in the number…
My favorite prophecies are anything that had to do with the Messiah coming to earth!

Does Harry Potter stand with you above list?

    Manuscript Evidence. Yes
    Archaeological Evidence. Yes
    Eyewitness Accounts. N/A
    Corroborating Accounts Yes
    Literary Consistency. Yes
    Prophetic Consistency Yes
    Expert Scrutiny Yes
    Leader Acceptance. Yes
    Global Influence. Yes
    Changed Lives. Yes

The bible is true but not because of the above.

  • July 12, 2014 at 6:23 pm

    1. Formal fallacy. The fact that a text has manuscripts does not make its contents “true”.
    2. On the other hand, there are far more things that has no archaeological backup whatsoever.
    3. And if the Cargo Cults write down their experiences of planes delivering gifts from their gods, it will be “eyewitness accounts”… and yet, it will not be an accurate explanation of the phenomenon but only an expression of their faith (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFKfqrdP6xs, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cargo_cult)
    4. Yes, and some of them regard them as a fanatical and extremist cult. Tacitus (Ann. 15.44), Suetonious (Claud. 25) and Pliny (Nat. 7-10) depict them as superstitious and depraved.
    5. The question of the internal consistency of the Bible concerns the coherence and textual integrity. The Bible, as we know it, underwent a process of edition and selection. There were over 15 versions of it in ancient times… As a matter of fact, it become to be this “consistent” only after much editing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblical_canon)
    6. Read above. Imagine now how many prophecies could have been left out of the final product.
    7. The fact those ppl had “high standards” is not proven nor described anywhere, in any ancient source. From an argument based upon the selection of texts you cannot possibly conclude anything about the truth of its contents,
    8. Leader Acceptance is in Rhetoric a statistic argument. Although persuasive, that line of reasoning is flawed and it is extremely DANGEROUS. Not because 90% of Nazi Germany thought their country was under the attack of a massive Jew conspiracy, the conspiracy existed. Then again, before Christianity, Rome as a whole had different beliefs, were them true?
    9. Global Influence… so it had Star Wars, but it doesnt mean the “force” exist as such. “Global argument” is not an argument for validity. In fact it is not even serious.
    10. Changed Lives. Yes, but because all those ppl had FAITH, not because the contents or a book can be proven unmistakably “true”.
Note, about “love and good works”: contrary to what most ppl think it was no other than St. Agustine who first came upon the concept of “holy war” (City of God 1.21). it is simply abhorrent and it justifies David murdering babies (Ps. 137:9) I disgress; my point is, if we acknowledge the role the Holy Scripture have in turning us into better people, we have also to admit that It has also turned some of us into terrible human beings. And so, your argument is not valid.
The faithful profess first to believe in God, whose majesty is INCOMPREHENSIBLE (Jer. 32:19, caps mine ofc). For, as the Apostle says, He dwells in light inaccessible, which no man hath seen, nor can see (1 Tim. 6:16). No man shall see my face and live (Exod. 33:20). The mind cannot rise to the contemplation of the Deity, whom nothing approaches in sublimity, unless it be entirely disengaged from the senses, and of this in the present life we are naturally incapable.

Where were you all this time? We have proved beyond doubt that the Bible is true.
Haven’t you read this page from the beginning?
I am sure you haven’t read the Bible, which is written by simple believers led by the Holy Spirit. Do you know the Holy Spirit? The third person of Christian Trinity God? If you are a real Christian you would not only believe in Him but you would have experience with Him. Christianity is a faith. If you have faith in the only God, you will be definitely be guided in your life by Him.
I don’t have time for proving to you or anybody else on this page again about the reality of God’s existence, and His only Son Jesus Christ through whom we got our redemption and d freedom.
Read it. And read the Bible
Jesus is coming back soon and we real believers have to concentrate on our Bible studies and saving genuine people who are really interested about Christianity.

Evolution has been observed and documented on several occasions. I invite you to do a quick Google search and see the publishing for yourselves. As for the stoning of gays, the bible does say that he is the same yesterday, today and forever. Even Jesus himself said I did not come to overthrow the law (ot) but to uphold it. If you truly believed scripture then you would not nitpick its contents to a manner that suits your lifestyles. Good article, except it is logical folly to use the bible as proof of its existence. So much fail…. If you want to convince any skeptic with at least half a brain, you would have to do much better than these arguments. These arguments seem to be for your own affirmation, rather than convincing “proof” to any intelligent skeptic. Rant over.

  • July 22, 2014 at 2:46 pm

I don't believe that any of the gospels were written by people that witnessed anything, they were all forgeries the names were attached 100 years later.

  • July 24, 2014 at 2:17 pm

Someone please explain to me then what our sins are. I look at the church as a place where people can do very bad things and then ask for forgiveness and all is ok. Priests have raped young boys and I have a clean life, have not caused harm or committed any crime, but I am a sinner that needs to be saved? How about my sister who has battled cancer for 9 years and now has only short months to live? God's plan because he wants her in “heaven”? Why didn't he take her 9 years ago instead of inflicting 9 years of agony on her. First person who suggests this at her funeral gets a punch in the face.

How the hell did a man get swallowed by a whale only to walk out of it's mouth days later? I'm supposed to believe this because “experts” say the bible is true. Who are these scholars?

Why hasn't any such jaw dropping event happens in modern times. I'm not talking about inventions like cars or computers. I want to see someone pull a blade of grass from the ground and feed 1000 people. I want to see an ass ( donkey not human) look me square in the eyes and speak in Hebrew to me. I would love to see the sun stop in it's tracks when someone yells at it. Then I would believe.
Who can really believe a man built a boat that could carry 2 of every animal on earth. I told to believe it because scholars deem the bible to be true. I bet once he got elephants, rhinos and several big ones on board it was full. Come on people , how can you believe this?

  • July 26, 2014 at 4:27 pm

what if a hardcore unbeliever says that the bible is just a story written by man that he could not believe what was written by man. How can I satisfy him to believe that The Bible is true.

  • July 27, 2014 at 6:28 am

1 Peter 4:18 “And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”…the path to Heaven is narrow, so I'm not surprised by the number of unbelievers…We are separated from God right now and we are not capable of knowing everything…but someday, all will be revealed when He is ready…find a church with an educated preacher, and he will provide evidence of the Bible…get baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and then the Scriptures will be clear, because it's impossible to understand the Bible on your own…I sincerely hope that everyone soon says “Wow, I get it now,” because it's all true…the rapture is coming, and I hope God picks you as a flower, instead of leaving you behind as a weed……..

  • July 27, 2014 at 6:48 am

I am so very sorry about your sister…I don't believe God planned this for her…I believe it's just a part of this time on the earth for good and bad things to happen…it's all just bad luck or good luck or coincidence…people who are doing terrible things will only be forgiven if their heart is truly with God…sin is sin and can all be forgiven as long as the sinner repents and sins no more…that is the reason Jesus was sacrificed…we are not capable of knowing everything right now, but God will reveal all when He's ready…The earth isn't an accident, but an intentional creation by God, and He makes the rules…find a church with an educated preacher to teach you, and get baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and then the scriptures will all fall into place and make sense…I promise…as far as the miracles, they were miracles!!!!…God is silent right now, and wants our faith…it's all in the Bible…you must seek God, because it's the only way to “get it”…please trust me, as I want you to be saved so you can be with your sister again someday…this earth will be restored to a Garden of Eden state, and we will walk with God just like Adam and Eve did…it's all in the Bible…good luck, and I will pray for you and for your sister…I hope you will both find the peace that can only come from our Father…

I can't help but want to respond to this topic. I grew up in a strict Christian faith and in college I learned a little more about the Bible and how it was put together. For several years I struggled with this. I refused to read the Bible and chose to simply take a step back. As a part of my search for faith, I once again started doing research about a year ago.

Here's what I learned. I believe in God. I can't not. Why? Because when I look at my life, I know that God has been there with me through some pretty awful times. I know that I have landed in some pretty good situations after these awful times and I don't believe it's due to coincidence or luck.

However, I do have a few problems with your list, especially after having countless arguments with peers over the years. Let's start with #3. I think it's important for Christians to know – especially when sharing their faith with others, or trying to defend the Bible, that not all books of the Bible are actually eye-witness accounts. Let's take 1 and 2 Peter for example. Christians widely believe that it was written by the Apostle Paul. However, many theologians and historians have suggested the books are likely written by more than one author. This is due to the fact that it was written in several different time periods and includes differing writing styles throughout the books. This means, that parts of the books were written at a time when Jesus was not on earth (so clearly they are not eye-witness). So, how does this group of experts who accepted the book into the Bible feel about the authenticity of 1 and 2 Peter? You say expert scrutiny is a reason the Bible is truth. But do some research on how the canonical committee felt about adding 1 and 2 Peter to the Bible. There were clear doubts as to the authorship being that of an eye witness and that of a an apostle, and yet the books were added as canon anyway. So, tell me, how is it that this group of experts can really determine whether not these 2 books (if not others in the Bible) are truly the word of God, or truly inspired by those who have been touched by god? As humans, we are sinners. Every single one of us. So, tell me, is there any way that these “experts” you list as proof the Bible is true could have made a mistake? Could have a flaw? Or could have allowed a human influence to determine the books that make up the Bible?

I will be honest. If I went to a group of friends with your list here, many would laugh in my face. What you have listed is not good proof the Bible is true, especially for those who have scientific brains. Let's look at #8. Just because Lincoln approved or believed in the Bible, that is a reason to believe the Bible is true? Are you kidding? That's like me saying, that if George W. Bush believed global warming didn't exist, well, that is enough proof for the rest of the world to believe it does not exist. This is a huge logical fallacy that does not equip anyone to argue that the Bible is truth, or to argue for christianity.

Finally, #10. I believe my life has been changed by God. Not per se because of anything I have read in the Bible or any specific passages, but because of my experiences. And I will use this argument when talking to friends or sharing my beliefs. However, let me again say there will be many who will say they don't believe in my experience. And why would they if they've never had any similar experiences?

I really think you missed the point. If I went into a debate with the list you provided, I would be laughed out of the room To be honest, I do not feel more equipped to defend the Bible than I did before reading your article, and frankly, I feel like defending the Bible is just like defending faith. I believe it for my own reasons. I believe it because of my experiences. Is everyone going to understand that and believe it just because I do? No. And do I expect them to? No.

My wife has been suffering from thyroid cancer which was confirmed to be stage four, the doctor told me there was little he could do since she wasn’t responding to treatment but a friend of mine came to our rescue by ordering this hemp oil from RICK which he said has been helping some patient fight against cancer of various types so we decided to give it a chance, so far my wife is improving perfectly very well and presently she can walk around the house all by herself. I felt its necessary i let others who are suffering from this acute disease that once you have a good hemp oil it can really give one a sound second chance of living. by chance if you happen to be in need of this hemp oil you can contact RICK who supplied I and my wife with this email: [email protected]

Scripture does not go against human nature but instead explains it. Of course if we wanted to change who we are it would go against our nature a “sin nature” but what's wrong with bettering yourself? Whether you believe in God or not it is obvious that everyone and everything has a complex design that works for specific functions. Obviously the universe was intelligently designed

God kills millions in the Noahs Ark story. He destroyed the Tower of Babel for no reason. He allows the Hebrews to fall into slavery. He then messes with free will by “hardening pharaohs heart” so that he won't allow the Hebrews to leave even after the 10 plagues. This is all so he has an excuse to massacre the Egyptians. Of course there are no records in Egypt of this ever happening. God destroys the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. He says they are “wicked” but never explains how they are wicked. Also at the end of the flood god vows not to commit genocide ever again. Wow that lasted long. God condones slavery. God doesn't have anything against rape. God ordered Abraham to kill his own son. God is a monster

  • August 12, 2014 at 8:20 pm

You absolute nutjobs. Most religious people would gladly laugh at people like conspiracy theorists or people who believe in the possibility that another lifeform may actually exist on one of those billions of other planets yet they will believe in an invisible man who sits in the sky with a list of ten things you should not do. Please actually stop an think about it. Ridiculous isn't it. Im not myself somebody who actually claims to know what happened with regards to the beginning of the world but its funny how the big bang theory is often laughed at by the religious and explained away as something cannot come from nothing. If the big bang theory is ever proved true then it must be god who caused it as part of his plan. But my question would be then what was before god? Because surely god couldn't just magic himself up out of nothing.

  • August 17, 2014 at 1:18 pm

wow what an idiot shows how much you know about the Bible

  • August 20, 2014 at 9:38 pm

    1. The old testament was written about 1,400 b.c. Fairly easy to have accurate historical and cultural references in the Bible when is was written during or after these events took place. There are many fictional books that contain real historical battles, people, culture, and locations. The new testament was written 80-100 years after the death of jesus.

    2. The number of manuscripts does not prove your bible is true.

    3. No Historical corroborating accounts. Also, large-scale excavations by Israeli and Egyptian archaeologists have revealed that there isn't a single shred of physical evidence for the Exodus story. Furthermore, there is no record of Caesar Augustus' decree that “all the world should be enrolled” (Lk. 2:1). The Romans kept extremely detailed records of such events. The property tax was collected on site by travelling assessors, thus making unnecessary Joseph's journey away from what little property he must have owned. How can there be no accounts of Israelites, let alone Moses, who held in captivity for 400 years in any Egyptian texts?

    3. Global influence in art? You must not have read any books regarding the dark ages. Also,it's very easy to have a global impact when religious armies such as the crusaders forced people and kingdoms to either believe in their god or die.
Ethics wise, the bible allows slavery, genocide, rape, human sacrifice(jesus, daughter of Jephtha,to name a few). General Stonewall Jackson,a very religious person,Like many Southerners, Jackson struggled with his feelings about the institution of slavery, but it obviously was God’s will that it exist—a belief widely held in the South.
How many women were burned to death because they were said to be witches? Saint Thomas More burned many christians alive for simply owning a bible that was not written in latin, but in their own language.
    5. “The early church had extremely high standards for what books were judged to be authentic and therefore included in the Bible.” I guess the church is ok with slavery.

I am from Indonesia, the largest most populated muslim country in the world, and I am christian. But in this topic I deny what atheis always commented. It's funny when they said science proof anything, when what exactly happen is they didn't have good score in science study. Even bill gates, the atheis big boss said ” it make sense to believe in god”, right know he and his family accepting catholic and jesus christ. You know what next ? Bill gates out from microsoft CEO, and become filantophy, making “gates foundation” to help african people. You atheis talking about little detail but you forget the important thing. Did you really born, if there is no jesus christ in the past ? The answer is “no, I don't think so” because he is the one that change the shape of cruel world become a better world, you should be very thankfull of that. You atheis talking about nonsense, remember “there is always be new science theory, but what happen to bibble story always permanent”. Stop saying that christ only true from the heart that only capable people feel it, because it can be true from your heart too. You didn't feel it because you're living in the world that atheis principe, family, friend, people, money, education, entertainment, information, technology, music, movie, porn, cartoon, anime, idol thing, quotes, inside your head. How did you knows god miracle, if you don't feel it, because miracle happen everytime in your life, and you don't realize it. You atheis talking nonsense about religious people dislike gay and lesbian, because it's funny when what exactly happen is, you're a straight and the finest human being that use gay and a lesbian topic to offend religious people. What do you think happen If the world just like your fantasy, you think it's better ? the answer is “no, I don't think so” because other people mind and the way of thinking is different, it proof that your fantasy world never last longer than religious people world. I don't believe in alien too, because nazi invented UFO spaceship, called vril 7. So all issue photos about UFO, it's just nazi spaceship or britain spaceship that made by founded vril 7 blueprint. For you all alien maniac and fan, I must say that you already lost in the first place because National Graphic said that space is very big and has a different time of evolution, so if there is many alien in the space, I am sorry human kind will be civilized by different kind of alien every 1 second, in fact there is no one coming, ha ha ha. If you say there is an organization hiding alien thing it's mean you already proof that you are complete loser because If there is many kind of alien, I don't thnk every kind of them has their way to secret organization, there will always be the kind that launch the ultimate invasion to earth, in fact that's never happen, you lost once again. If you asking ” why, there is so many religion in the world” my answer is “the world is flimsy, so many thing happen, but still flimsy. so messiah comes to makes the world unique. And you know what religion I'm talking about”. God bless you everyone, I need a request prayer from all of you, my request is to make my country become a peacefull country, not a radical country at this time of stake, amen.

The actual reason people don’t believe the Bible is, that God hasn’t spiritually awakened them (yet). If you believe in God but not the Bible, then you want to get an idea of what your ideas about God are and where they are getting those ideas from. For example, have many ideas about God that do come from the Bible, but feel no need to read or know the Bible itself….///Also in science: God is like an image in the mirror and science is like an object in front of kind. And..Science is merely the study of what God created.

Jesus intended that His word be clear and wanted the instructions that his disciples would begin to deliver soon after his resurrection to lead those hearing them into uniform understanding and obedience. This intention is clearly stated in Jesus’PRAYER as recorded in John 17:20-21.

John 17:20-21 : I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they ALL may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.

John 20:24-29 : Jesus Appears to Thomas

24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, ‘We have seen the Lord’. But he said unto them, ‘Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.’
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the DOORS being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, ‘Peace be unto you.’
27 Then saith he to Thomas, ‘Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.’
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, ‘My Lord and my God.’
29 Jesus saith unto him, ‘Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.’

John 14:6 : Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 17:11 : The people of Berea were more open-minded than the people of Thessalonica. They were very willing to receive God's message, and every day they carefully examined the Scriptures to see if what Paul said was true.

1 Cor 2:12 : Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.

1 Cor 2:14 : But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

It is God's will and desire that His word be studied and understood by each individual who would believe and become obedient to that will. God wants us to use the minds He has given to study His Word carefully so that you will not be easily misled by anyone. If you want to be sure that you really know what the Bible says and interpret correctly, you must read and examine it for yourselves, and you must pray and ask God to help you and keep you from error. He is able to show you and to us what His Word really says. God does desire to have a real, true relationship experience with people.

I had been looking for a good argument, but it isn't hard to blow each of these arguments out of the water.
Even the ones that do have a point can easily be taken out.
    1. Bestseller status does not prove truthfulness.
    2. It doesn't prove that the Bible is true any more than the existence of the Vatican proves that Dan Browns books are true. All it does is prove that there are parts that are true or based in historical fact.
    3. Eyewitness account is extremely shaky. How many people in cults have died for their belief, because they were convinced that what they were taught was true? People will die for their convictions. This only proves that those people (at minimum the ones that can be proven to have existed) really truly believed it. It doesn't prove anything beyond that. It also doesn't prove that the authors were actually there or were who they claimed they were. That's just hearsay too. Apart from that members of other religions died for their faith as well when it was still in its infancy. Muslims were persecuted at first and believed and died for it when necessary. Same rule applies there.
    4. see 2.
    5. It only proves that new authors were very familiar with the writings of the old authors.
    6. Eh no. Ask a Jew.
    7. They picked only the books that went in line with their beliefs. How is that supposed to increase the chances that it's true?
    8. Just because people who weren't there believe it doesn't make it true. Quite a few world leaders believed and believe in other texts, including the Koran and I doubt you would use that argument there.
    9. Islam did the same thing in their sphere of influence before that. Do I need to refer to Spain under Muslim rule?
Fame and influence doesn't make it true either. It just means that more missionaries went abroad into newly conquered territory and evangelized the natives. And with that a relatively high number of scientists were Christian, based upon the location of the majority of Christendom for large parts of history.
    10. Subjective experience isn't a proof for truth. Many people have believed falsehoods and it influenced their lives.

  • November 2, 2014 at 9:40 pm

I disagree with all of these reasons–first of all, we are proving that the Bible is true in the claims it makes, not that it's authentic. Those are two different things completely.

So number 1 is out the window.

Number 2 is saying that because there is history mixed in with the myth and lore, that the Bible is completely true? That's like saying that if you happen to put World War II into a movie like 'Inglourious Basterds', that the movie's main plot is true. That's not correct at all!!

Number 3 – eyewitness account/dying for something untrue? Let me suggest that people would die for the PRINCIPLES that a figure like Jesus Christ stood for, just as people died for the principles of many famous figures in history, and that perhaps people were then as they are now–that they see things and connect things which aren't connected, based on bias. Besides, if you fool somebody, then they don't know it's untrue, do they?

Number 4 – Josephus was born in 37 A.D. Jesus was born presumably 0 B.C. but probably closer to 4 B.C., and died in his 30's? Corroborating accounts of what? If you're going to say 'the miracles of the apostles', then I'm sorry, but people claim to perform miracles even today, and there are plenty of 'eye-witness accounts' and corroboration, from lunatics, and none of it has even been proven or repeated at will, conveniently.

Number 5 – If you pass on tradition, people will read their religious texts and make new consistent material from the prophecy of the old. This is like saying that if I read the Bible and it says somebody will be born on my birth date and with my hair and eye color, that they will go around and do miracles… and then I go and learn magic, never reveal its secret, get a bunch of people to fake blindness and ebola, and never have to involve authority to prove my abilities, since I can rely on plenty of stupid people to believe what they see. (until I'm incarcerated for inciting riot and authorities to do me the modern version of what they did to Jesus) But hey, it'll be another chapter to add to this 'consistent book', right??? You just have to believe that stupid people know the truth better than the educated, and believe them more than educated people…

Number 6 – Read above. Just because I read a text and do everything it says… even PROVING I've read them by quoting them, like Jesus did… doesn't mean there's a miraculous fulfillment of prophecy. People can do whatever they want, including fulfill prophecies themselves. Interestingly enough, as I've alluded above, you would probably come into trouble with authority if you tried to con a lot of people, and interestingly this is the position in which Jesus found himself. Can I say 'duh!'? Because 'duh!'

Number 7 – “Extremely high standards” means extremely scrutinous editing, including editing out parts that are completely inconsistent. Therefore, you're choosing what story to create and making sure it's consistent! That's throwing out data! If you were a scientist and did that, you'd be fired!

Number 8 – Leader acceptance?! What did Hitler accept? Do I really care? I'm sure Germans did… why don't we all be like Germans?

Number 9 – One that comes close? What does the Bible have to say about modern democracy? About plant genomes and engineering a crop genetically to yield food for billions of people? About electronics? About plastics? About germ theory? About the physics of building structures? About ACTUALLY educating people out of their class systems? Nada. Nothing. Conversely, no book even comes close to being as useless to people as the Bible.

Number 10 – Let's just ignore all the people it's had burned at the stake.

  • November 5, 2014 at 11:08 pm

The witnessed events and testimonies by non believers have helped save countless numbers of people and has added more weight to the bible being true. Scholars and historians like Titus Flavius Josephus documented the crucifixion and other events backing up the bibles validity.

No one knows if God really exists or not; it's all about faith.
There is still a chance that He exists, is there not?
No matter how small, there is still a chance.
Also, in the Bible, it states that God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts, so we do not know His thoughts, or His plans. We try to argue and debate and research to find out His plans and dismiss them as fake or evil.
The Old Testament is written by Jewish prophets and others, so the rule about stoning homosexuals makes total sense; it was a rule for the Jews. God is holy yet righteous, so he must judge the unrighteous, like homosexuality.
These Jewish rules are barely mentioned in the NT, while the Ten Commandments are mostly mentioned. Paul teaches us that we shouldn't be gay, but still love one another.
Also, homosexuality is a choice, because if it wasn't, if it was a biological thing, then God would have made a mistake, which He doesn't.

Oh and by the way, how would the big bang occur if there was nothing? Oh yeah, there were cells. How did the cells come into existence? Oh, the ingredients of cells made it come into existence. Then so on, until we go on to the very simplist “ingredient”, that is not made up of smaller ingredients. How did that come into existence?

Ahem, excuse me . I have a question for u unbelievers. Don't u decide 4 yourself wat you want? Oh, and DO NOT blame God. He died for u. At least try to be grateful.

I fucking hate all of you dumb Christians…. and im never checking this blog again so have fun telling me how dumb I am for knowing your ancient book is the word of some holy being who had a virgin give birth to himself so he could save us by killing himself from his own punishment to us.

  • December 4, 2014 at 12:22 am

Why would you be on this page if you don't agree?

  • December 9, 2014 at 8:16 pm

I'm sorry but none of the reasons described above prove that the bible and Christianity in fact aren't just man made concepts and nothing more. Created by man to control man.

  • December 9, 2014 at 9:02 pm

If God killed anyone..it was divine judgment…not murderer. He created man so he has the right to destroy those who blatantly oppose him and his commandments. Blame God for Man killing Man??? Really? Hmm.
Nye…there is a reason he ALLOWS these things to happen. It is to prove without a shadow of a doubt that Man CANNOT rule this world. Man has brought it to ruin. If he interferes with that than someone can say ” We didn't have enough time to prove it” he has given man over 5998 yrs to prove it. Since Adam and Eve first disobeyed God.

To the person who said that the bible refers to the earth as an orb while the rest of the world believes it to be flat, thats a common misconception. nobody believed that world was flat apart from one guy who wrote it down and this was found by archaeologists who assumed. the greeks knew the earth was round because when a boat comes over the horizon you see the sails first. also on a moral point of view, if god existed he would have given us millions of deaths in religious wars. firstly, if there was a all powering god why would he create opposition so to speak, in other religions? also how would an all loving god let people die in wars, or in starvation or through disease? look at what science has given us. medical research. last time you went to the hospital, it wasn't god who treated you. nor was it god who developed those treatments. it was a human being, same as the person who invented fire, and education, and the computer you are typing at, the lights in your home, the table and plates you eat your food on. Even if God existed, he gave us and earth, the sun and life. Science has given us what makes life worth living.

  • December 24, 2014 at 8:13 pm

So since god created us hes not held responsible oh wait that's the devil god only responsible for what's good don't make since to me I don't know not on parent who wants there kid to suffer even if there evil but he's our father huh people are so stupid religion is the only thing I know that killed more people then anything u can think about in history but they continue to praise it how evil can that be

Fear of less men to farm or earn money for aging family members. That's why the Bible rejects booty sex between men. Now we have computers at work operated by men and women equally. No more heavy lifting jobs are crucial on industrialized communities. Also, poorer and less industrialized communities have more homophobia influenced by labor demands.

Listen. The Lord is the ONE and ONLY way to get to heaven. Jesus died on the cross to forgive everyone's sins. It's a gift. Jesus is perfect, but no human is. Without God, we would not be here. Without God we would not exist. God gave us all the gift of Eternal Life. Whether or not you choose to accept the gift is YOUR CHOICE. God wants everyone to choose. But remember this: A- Admit you are a sinner and that you have done wrong, B- Believe in the Lord your God as the ONE and ONLY TRUE GOD that Jesus died for YOU and EVERYONE on the cross, so that one day we may all go to heaven if we BELIEVE, and C- Confess your faith in Jesus as your Savior and Lord and live your life for him and believe in him. It is your choice. But please just remember that GOD LOVES YOU. If you will read the Completely True and Holy Bible, I recommend to start with The Book of John. I will be praying for you.

Yomamadud there is a lot that is hard to understand, no one wants to parish and most of us pray against it but we all will. Sometimes we don't have all the answers and truthfully among all who preach no one will ever fully know all of the answers. I will pray for your health (which anyone who read your post should do) I will not carry on preaching for that will not help you, instead I will pray and ask you that all who read this pray too. God Bless you I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties.

The Bible is true. Jesus did die on the cross to forgive everyone's sins and all you have to do to go to heaven is believe this and know that he is the ONE and ONLY Lord your God. The Bible speaks of truth. Think about it. The Bible is a really old, super important history book. Though it is true, it is a choice that you will have to make whether or not you believe. I'll be praying for you!

The early apostles were living in Roman Empire, where Ceaser was God. No one could be above him.

They had been tortured when they tried to preach that Ceaser was not a god. To make Christianity acceptable and get followers to it they had to change their strategy.

It has also to be remembered that the apostles were primarily illiterate fishermen and never kept any notes of what Jesus had said and done. Romans, on the other hand, were highly knowledgeable and learned. It stands to reason that some Romans befriended the apostles and told them how they should present Jesus. Much like today's marketing people present a product to the public (much more so if they were not required by law to prove anything).

So, Jesus was appropriately packaged and presented as such.
To lend credence to Jesus being above Ceaser they did the following:
Jesus was given an aura by showing that his coming was pre ordained. (It was thus imperative that the apostles accept Bible, and call it the word of God). Ceaser was not pre-ordained in any Roman text.
They created a story about virgin birth of Jesus, which no Ceaser could claim.
They created a story of resurrection and ascendance of Jesus. No Ceaser had done that.
They created stories about the miracles of Jesus, including bringing the dead back to life, something that Ceaser could not do.
To make people accept Christianity they created the following:
Story of “The original sin”, which did not exist in the Roman literature. This is another reason that they had to accept the Bible.
They said that you could only achieve “salvation” through accepting Jesus. They created a difference between earthly ruler and heavenly ruler. They thus avoided a direct confrontation with Ceaser. (Today we call it marketing segmentation.)
They created various speeches supposed to have been delivered by Jesus. If you will read the speeches, you will note that they appeal to the common man, without denouncing the Roman Empire at any point. (You may say creating a marketing message.)
The European rulers found that Christianity was a good way of entering new lands in the garb of peace. They had seen that direct attacks had been costly, lasted for short periods and had failed repeatedly. Once enough of the local population was converted to Christianity, they would gradually create rift between local religions and Christian followers and wage wars to subjugate them.

With no malice to my Christian friends, but with a request to one and all that in today's age of knowledge let us not remain blind but try and reach the truth, as that is the only way to true salvation. After all our years are numbered.

In the Bible GOD tells us that satan roams the earth. We are his sheep he protects us as best as he can from from the wolf. Put your trust in him and he will guide and protect. When something so awful happens it's not up to us to blame our heavenly father but to look for him for comfort care and his mighty fierce judgement.

  • February 12, 2015 at 8:14 pm

Jesus' resurrection after his death is the ultimate and defining proof of Jesus' divinity. Just about everyone knows the story, which is summarized in the Apostles' Creed. Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

There is only one way for Jesus to prove that he rose from the dead. He had to appear to people. Therefore, several different places in the Bible describe Jesus' appearances after his death:

    •Matthew chapter 28
    •Mark chapter 16
    •Luke chapter 24
    •John Chapter 20 and 21

1 Corinthians 15:3-6 provides a nice summary of those passages, as written by Paul:

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. As you can see in this passage, Jesus appeared to hundreds of people a number of different times.

Being like Paul: When we look at these Bible passages, there is a question that comes to mind — why did Jesus stop making these appearances? Why isn't Jesus appearing today? It really is odd. Obviously Paul benefitted from a personal meeting with the resurrected Christ. Because of the personal visit, Paul could see for himself the truth of the resurrection, and he could ask Jesus questions. So… Why doesn't Jesus appear to everyone and prove that he is resurrected, just like he appeared to Paul? There is nothing to stop Jesus from materializing in your kitchen tonight to have a personal chat with you. And if you think about it, Jesus really does need to appear to each of us. If Paul needed a personal visit from Jesus to know that Jesus was resurrected, then why wouldn't you? It is an important question for the following reasons:

•We are told by the Bible that Jesus appeared to hundreds of people.

•We therefore know that it is OK for Jesus to appear to people — it does not take away their free will, for example.

•We know that it would be easy for Jesus to appear to everyone all through history, since Jesus is all-powerful and timeless.

•We know that, if Jesus did reappear to everyone, it would be incredibly helpful. We could all know, personally, that Jesus is resurrected and that Jesus is God. If Paul (and all the other people in the Bible) needed a personal visit to know that Jesus was resurrected, then why not you and me?

•Yet, we all know that Jesus has not appeared to anyone in 2,000 years.

THINK folks! Which is more likely: A dead man walked out of his grave 2,000 years ago, ate a broiled fish lunch with his fishing buddies and then 40 days later levitated into outer space, or, this entire story of a Resurrection is a legend: a legend based on false sightings and/or visions and hallucinations, of well-intentioned but uneducated, illiterate, hope-shattered, superstitious Galilean peasants, desperately trying to keep alive their only source of hope in their miserable, first century existence?

    Hello my christian friend,
if you are still using this website then i would like to ask and understand some questions I have thought up

Some are to do with your ideas and opinions and some are based on the bible

1.how can we prove the existence of any character, figure or person based on this book as no one could possibly have the surnames of any of these unless there is a hidden page in the book or a philosopher which can tell you highly doubt it)

2.All your evidence has not been defined in proper sense your reason are based mostly on eyewitness which still confuses me of the identity of any of these people

3.Do you believe in the genes,DNA,evolution theories that have been proved with sufficient evidence if so does this have any affect on the story of Christ and does this therefore out state many of your given answers above

    4 Does god answer prayers?

5.have you ever experienced god when you needed him and not just through a self confidence boost but physically seen or spoken to him if so what was his appearance what did he say

6.why do you think people dont believe in the teachings of the bible if they are so plainly true?

7.Many of the accounts and witnesses are unsubscribed and often flawed especially between the old and new gospel leaving any educated reader puzzled by its origins

8.How can anyone say the bible is true based on either:
    a) They were written by lots of different people and all accounts match up (See Q1)
    b) how can you say events were predicted in the old testament that occurred in the new(who is stopping anyone saying it is simply the same person)
    c) there is physical evidence that refers to any miracles at all, the book was completely written as a confidence raise for those who needed it, by creating a false sense of security from a imaginary unclassified spirit or entity there are no names or references to when the events actually took place or happened

9.and lastly pilate never existed there as a historical figure there are no documents recovered artifacts leading to his life furthermore proving that he is fabricated to align the story with the dates

    10. if you can answer this question and tell me why any of this information is false i will be surprised but thankyou anyway

i had a good LOL at this. Thanks for making your followers more idiotic than ever, now anyone who reads this will be caught with their pants down in a debate because all these “arguments” are so easy to destroy without reference. You did atheists a great service with this page! ill spread the word!

  • March 20, 2015 at 2:51 am

I find it amusing that the majority these are either appeals to popular opinion, appeals to authority, or post hoc, ergo propter hoc arguments; all of which are logical fallacies.

  • March 27, 2015 at 10:22 am

All of your reasons are actually opinions on one religion if religion is real there would be only one not multiple. There is no scientific evidence to prove religion at all not to mention most religions date the earth at 7000 years old and that is 100% bull. Give the world proof they can see and touch then and only then can any Jesus freak say religion is real. Until u can prove it don't say its 100% true. That is misleading information. Oh and just for laughs here is a hole in the entire catholic religion since Jesus is supposedly in the middle east why would his apostles have american names oh and you expect people to believe that one man heard gods call and put every animal on a boat. First off any normal human would figure out gee this rain hasn't stopped maybe I should build a boat. You don't need gods influence for that its common sense. As I said prove it with actual tangible evidence then u have your say until then happy hunting for real proof garuntee you won't find it

  • March 27, 2015 at 10:24 am

Scientifically prove everything u said and then Jesus is real until then leave your phony god to yourself

  • March 29, 2015 at 2:53 am

So I have a question: If you saw your beloved, back-from-the-dead “leader” levitate off of the ground until he is swallowed up in a cloud, to never be seen again, by you or anyone else on planet earth, would that be something you might include in your one and only “gospel” about him???

But yet Mark, the first gospel written (the original, not the altered versions), Matthew, and John say NOTHING about an Ascension! The ONLY person who mentions an Ascension (in his two books, Luke and Acts) is someone who tells us in the first chapter of Luke that he is NOT an eyewitness to any of these events; that he obtained this information, at best, second hand!

So we are to believe that Matthew and John, two alleged eyewitnesses to both the Resurrection and the Ascension, say not ONE word about this fantastic, supernatural event, but we are asked to believe that someone who was not even an eyewitness is telling us the facts of a real, historical, law-of-gravity-defying event???

    Give me a break!

  • April 3, 2015 at 5:17 pm

Sites like this scare the hell out of me. You're all bat-shit crazy. None of the examples above should even remotely be considered as evidence-based facts proving the veracity of the claim that “The Bible” is both an accurate portrayal of history or the word of “God”.

  • April 15, 2015 at 5:30 am

You're basically stating that if you had a child who went and raped and killed innocent people, you would be held responsible, accountable and blamed for all his actions. I hope you know that the God we believe in shares his word with the world, he does not possess souls. That's Satan, who clearly befriended you.

  • April 24, 2015 at 2:10 pm

Great list, now let's check the evidence:

    1. Proof in numbers. Well the Saudis are printing Korans by the millions with extraordinary consistency, that means the Koran must be true. And check out the consistency in the four different gospels. How's that for proof!

    2. Archeology: The more they dig, the more they disprove that the Earth is 6000 years old. Let me know when they find the stone tablets and the bodies of Adam and Eve.

    3. Eyewitnesses. We all know an eyewitness tells the truth. By the way The Bible was not written by eyewitnesses. The earliest 'witness' is Paul who never met Jesus. Would people die for something they knew to be false? The Heavens Gate cult committed suicide. That means Marshall Applewhite must have been a descendant of Jesus, right?

    4. Corroborating accounts. Josephus, if not interpolated, mentions Jesus. Does that mean
he was a son of God? Tacitus, if not interpolated, mentions Jesus, to same effect. A man called Jesus probably existed, but gets us nowhere nearer proving the Bible is true.

    5. Literary consistency. I think the Jews would disagree about that part about Jesus, but some degree of consistency in the way of a 'big purpose' is to be expected, as all societies through the ages have sought meaning. You cant pass a secret around between 12 (disciples?) and get the same message, and you can't get the same account in four gospels on the same events, I'll give you that.

    6. Prophetic consistence. Prophesies that seem fulfilled are always pretty broadstroked, and lo and behold, it came to pass! Show me the prophecy from the Old Testament that says “Jesus of Nazareth will be the son of God. He will die on the cross of the Romans from Italy, (of which you know nothing yet, but they will dominate the world more than a thousand years from now.) Jesus will rise again three days later, whereupon we won't hear from him again for at least 2000 years (and counting).” This is all assuming that those things are true (I'll grant the cross, it was a common way of dealing with would-be revolutionaries).

    7. Expert scrutiny. So only what was already accepted would be included – there's a tautology for you! It reminds me of the collection of the Koran (also true of course by way of expert scrutiny). We all know widespread use is proof in itself.

    8. Leader acceptance. Leaders don't lie, just ask Hitler, who's birthday by the way was celebrated in German churches during his reign.

    9. Global influence. Well, Islam has global influence, that makes it true then. The geocentric world view had global influence, but alas it turned out false. And yes, we all turn the other cheek everyday thanks to the Bible.

    10. Changed lives. Again I'll refer to Heavens Gate. That cult changed some lives too – all true then.

Please post some more proofs, I'm thoroughly entertained!

Loved the Panin math miracle in a later post also: 24 heptadic occurrences! 7 x 3 is…21 oops. Matthew 1 – almost looks like 7!

We all have unanswered questions. Fact is; God is greater than what our minds could ever understand. I am a sinner but I know my heavenly Father is alive; even if I don't understand everything. Point being; God is greater than our minds or our scientific understanding of the world. Open your hearts to God and see the changes happen in your life.

I find it funny that all who use science as authority forget that the very founders of scientific principles were inspired in their thought by… get ready for it! Supernatural things that supposedly don't exist! Many famous philosophers and scientists of ancient times until now have accredited their breakthroughs to supernatural visions or mystical experiences. Some even claim that the gods, even God Himself, gave them their wisdom. Great artists are inspired by similar experiences. All of art and science and culture was shaped by GASP supernatural wisdom!!!

So when people, even in their best of intended mind-set, claim that science is truth because it is based purely upon some sort of atheistic non-mystical non-religious world outlook, that's just not true. The institution of science consists of a great many people who only discover through experimentation things that were only first proposed as hypotheses, and a great many paradigm-shifting hypotheses had their start as MYSTICAL VISIONS!!! There is no scientific evidence to support things which science cannot find scientific evidence of, and one of those things of which science has no proof of is the very reasons why science should exist in the first place, rather than men simply repeatedly hitting rocks and hoping a woman falls out.

Now with this being said, I am a firm believer in The Bible, and I believe that the best way to approach The Bible is to assume two things, that It is Truth, and that You are a liar, and in the light of that it tahes much more effort to find inconsistencies in the Bible when you know darn well that this is the very first thing that liars try to do when dealing with people telling the truth about their lies. Instead of finding personal fault, they nitpick at the credibility and accuracy of the one who spoke the truth in an effort to undermine him and discourage all who would listen. The more thorough the nitpicker, the more convincing his lies become. I, being one of those nitpickers, have not to constantly affirm my faith, but rather to question my doubts and see whether they are justified or not, in light of God, The Word, and the inconsistencies of the world which has convinced me to religiously doubt that Truth is real.

To believe that science can grant eternal life and love and happiness and satisfying answers is even more incredible than believing in Jesus Christ. The only amazing thing about science is that people can now invent more efficient and terrible ways of ridiculing, raping, stealing from, and killing you for not bowing to its superior intellect. As a science disciple, one should consider guns and bombs and pesticides and cancer and rampant unemployment and poverty due to the growing redundancy of low class citizens in the workplace due to technology, not to mention that with every great leap forward, science shaves off another 10,000 years of survival for the future of this planet. We can tally up all the people that God has killed compared to Satan… right after we tally up all the people science and technology and the immorality and perversion of man, not to mention the great and wise mother nature herself, have killed mercilessly and TRULY for no reason whatsoever, good or evil… just because killing is business, and business is better than facing reality to most people.

For the naturally contradictory minds of the faithless to point out contradictions in God's Word is like me trying to operate a particle accelerator. I just shouldn't do it because I'd be out of my depth. The most honest thing I could do in that situation is say “I don't know.” and be agnostic about the whole higgs-boson deal.

Many of the modern religions today are based off people in the Bible ie: Catholics and Mary and the apostles, Jews and a twisted version of Jesus, Tec.

Know this is from 2 years ago, sorry. About Pascal's Wager, the next question would be which god? Hinduism and shinto have a myriad of gods, and apparently they have no problem with sharing (even kids above a certain age knows good manners) worship. But if we decide to stick with the monotheistic religions where god is jealous of anybody sharing the limelight (worship), then it still comes to which one: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Zoroastrianism, mithralism, etc. Believe most of the monos have a jealous god which makes finding the right god even harder. Choose the wrong one and get sent to hell. Believers and unbelievers both play the game of Russian roulette. Its not so clear cut.

If anyone sould be given some kinda that knowledgement it souls be Satan, (if the Bible is real) it seems like to me that God didn't want us to have any kind of knowledge to progress. God wants us to strive like little kids without the need to be independent of ourselves. Why is that? Its simple, our so called God was not a God at all its simple a higher form of intelligence. Satan gave use that potential to go and to strive and be godlike. That's the way I proceved it. A lot of people look over the book of enok. But its even said by 90% of scientise that the probability of there being a God is 1in10 12ths. (Not very likely at all)

What is a layperson/non-Bible scholar to do??

Here is our dilemma: Every Christian Old Testament Bible scholar, apologist, pastor, and priest on the planet says that the Old Testament prophesies the birth and death of Jesus of Nazareth as the Jewish Messiah (ben David). However, every (non-messianic) Jewish “Old Testament” scholar and rabbi adamantly states that there is not one single prophecy in the Hebrew Bible about Jesus.

So who are we poor ignorant saps to believe?

In lieu of spending the next 10 years becoming a fluent Hebrew-speaking Old Testament scholar yourself, I would suggest using some good ol' common sense. Who is more likely to be correct:

1.) Jewish sages and rabbis who have spent their entire lives immersed in Jewish culture, the Jewish Faith, the Hebrew language, and the Hebrew Bible—for the last 2,000 years…or… 2.) seminary graduates from Christian Bible colleges in Dallas, Texas and Lynchburg, Virginia?

Sorry, Christian scholars, but using good ol' common sense, I have to go with the Jewish scholars. And Jewish scholars say that Christian translators deliberately mistranslated and distorted the Hebrew Bible to say things in the Christian Bible that is never said in the original Hebrew—for the purpose of inventing prophesies into which they could “shoehorn” Jesus!

I recommend that every Christian read the bombshell book, “Twenty-Six Reasons Why Jews Don't Believe in Jesus” by orthodox Jewish author, Asher Norman. You will be blown away by the evidence that this Jewish author presents that confirms why Jews have said the following for the last two thousand years: “Jesus of Nazareth was NOT the Messiah.”

  • June 12, 2015 at 4:58 pm

So much waffle, so little 'proof'. The fact that the gospels of Mathew and Luke give different accounts of the birth of jesus must be a good starting point to question the bible. So much is obviously fiction. All the major events of his life seem to have been lifted from earlier religions and there is nothing original in this story. Also the concept of a 'loving' god. So loving that he will fry most of his creation because they happen to have been brought up to believe another religion, not because they are evil. The only evil person here is the Christian god. I'm so pleased that there isn't a shred of evidence for any of this nonsense. I was brought up as a Christian and have read the book from cover to cover. I started to question it in my teens and left it completely in my early 20s. The feeling of freedom upon being released from this evil death cult was extraordinary and that was nearly 50 years ago. Science and Evolution are true…..the bible is not.

  • June 18, 2015 at 9:16 pm

Lol these reasons don't justify the bible being true. Just because a lot of people accept it and believe it, still doesn't make it true.

  • June 26, 2015 at 4:57 pm

I am a christian , i follow Jesus teachings and preach the gospel to my friends and family , i love the example that Jesus left and i love alot of the stories in the bible , but i do not think that the bible to 100% correct , there are tons and tons of Scholars and references that say the opposite of what you posted and i think that anyone who says they believe the bible is true 100% is in denial , I myself have witnessed first hand experiences of Jesus , i was a Muslim before and after doing a ton of research i came before god and asked him for a vision and i got one and i also got a very vivid dream which lead me to Christianity , but even though it was strong i still cannot say that it is 100% because there are hundreds of thousands of accounts of people around the world having visions and dreams of Muhammad , Allah , Buddha , Indian gods etc.. We have tons of accounts of healing that work in Jesus name , in Allah name , in other religions gods names , so we cant say that just because we experienced something it must be true for everyone. I think that god works in that way , if you ask him to lead you he will do so by earthly knowledge , by what we know on this earth , for example there are people who see Jesus when they are so upset with their old religion and want the truth , so what does god do , he sends that person Jesus because for that person seeing Jesus will lead them to a faith that applies to them and gives them comfort and a feeling of love with god , or god may send someone a vision of Muhammad and the same would happen, because i think if god just sent you a random vision of none of these guys of something none of us knew , then that person would have a difficult time understanding what he/she saw and so god directs us to what we can understand which is the religions we currently have , some people do better with the Quran they can live by it in a very liberal non violent way and the same goes for the bible , Torah etc.. all of these texts contain violence and we should regard the violence as non literal for the sake of being decent human beings. Now i chose Christianity because i was raised with a personality of loving self sacrifice for others , turning the other cheek and loving your enemy , so i prefer Christianity because its more in line of how i see my role in this world and how i want to live my life but that doesn't make it more right or more wrong than anything else , its just more right for me. God just wants us to love him and love each other that's very evident and that we can know for sure and i think once we stop trying to win and prove our religion is right then we can start doing some good and get out there because there's a world that needs help and it need you and i to help it , in the name of being good and wanting to help and in the name of god , not Christianity , not Islam , not Hinduism

“Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If in my name you ask me[a] for anything, I will do it.

    —Jesus of Nazareth

Do you remember asking Jesus for the BIG stuff when you were a little kid? You asked Jesus to give you three ponies ( a black one, a brown one, and a white one) for Christmas. You asked Jesus to bring back your favorite GI Joe after he washed down the street drain in a storm. When your dog, Tippy, died you asked Jesus to bring him back from the dead. When you heard about all the starving children in the world, you prayed to Jesus to leave an envelope with one million bucks inside on your doorstep the next morning so you could feed all those starving kids.

So why don't you ask Jesus for the BIG stuff anymore? He said to ask for anything and he would do it!

Answer: When we get a little older we realize that Jesus didn't really mean what he said. What he meant to say was this,

“If you ask anything in my name, I will do it…if…it is my will to do it. If it isn't my will, I won't.”

So as we get older we stop asking Jesus for the big things, the hard things, because we have learned that Jesus never answers those prayers. Ok, maybe once in a great while Jesus answers a big or hard prayer but it is always something that could have happened by chance anyway, isn't it? Even really rare things can happen by chance. But Jesus never resurrects Grandpa or Grandma from the dead, no matter how hard we pray, does he? Jesus never reattaches a severed limb from an amputee, does he?

No, Jesus doesn't answer those prayers. That is asking Jesus for just a little too much, isn't it, dear Christian? That is why when you get older you only ask Jesus for the easy stuff: To bless your food. To give you a “nice day”. To keep your kids safe.

And when it is time to go to bed at night, you get down on your knees by your bed and you ask Jesus to bless everyone in your life; you thank him for having let you and your children live one more day…and then you fall asleep into your pillow…to wake up in the morning…to repeat the same prayer…full of easy requests, so you don't ask too much of Jesus…who promised to give you anything that you asked for.

But, maybe you're not asking Jesus for too much. Maybe the reason Jesus doesn't answer the big or the hard prayer requests is because Jesus can't hear you. Jesus can't hear you…because Jesus is dead.

Dear Christian: You are an adult now. Just as you stopped believing in imaginary beings called Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, it is time to stop believing in and praying to an ancient man/god who died 2,000 years ago. The “Virgin Birth”, the “Resurrection”, etc., are ancient folk tales. Jesus doesn't answer your prayer requests any more than Santa and the Tooth Fairy answered your requests to them when you were a kid.

It's a silly superstition and nothing more, friend. The fact that Jesus doesn't answer your “big” prayers is proof.

  • July 16, 2015 at 1:42 am

I like your reasons for believing the Bible is true and would like to use it to send others to your site, but it is very clear that you are a Calvinist, which is not Biblical and which I find hard to tolerate. Therefore I can not in good conscience point anyone to this site. Get rid of the Calvinism and you will be good, but with Calvinism, it is contaminated. Sorry.

  • July 19, 2015 at 8:54 pm

Well and correctly said, thank you. Reading atheists comments reminds me of a joke- atheists don't believe that God exists and they are mad at Him for that.
I am glad though that any of non believers engage in conversation about God. It means they are wondering about Him, whether they admit it or not.
Note to all non believers- Christians are not perfect, that's why we need Jesus to represent us to Father.

  • July 20, 2015 at 4:20 am

It's amazing how much the comments changed this year compare to 2014 and 2013. There are way more mockers and scoffers and only two believers. This is another prophecy coming to realization, by the way. It will only get worse, but dear Christians, don't waste time, cling to God and His word, share the good new with anyone who wants to hear it, be bold, stay strong and don't let anyone shake your faith. People who don't know God don't understand Bible, its truth not reviled to them and its pointless to try and convince them of its truth. They have to step out in faith and have the Spirit's guidance to understand what Bible talks about. We are fools to the world but that is of no consequence. Stay “fools” and be ready for Christ, stay obedient to His teaching. God is patient and loving, He gives us chance after chance to repent but we know that not all of us use these chances. For those people we should pray and hope for the change in their hearts. But most important, show them the Love and goodness of our God though our behavior. Be the “salt”, the ” light”. God bless us all and give us patience and wisdom in these troubled last days.

I have been dragged through many religions by my mother as a child. My mother was introduced to religion or Christianity in this case by way of an affair with a married man who was also religious, unfortunately I as a child was witness to the affair the aftermath of the same. My mother continued to have an on and off relationship with this man for years even after being with other men. As a teenager I was also witness to many church going members engaging in indiscretions and things that you would think would never happen in a church or by church members. In short it has been very difficult for me to gravitate to religion again because of these things and many others, regardless of how much I want to believe. My mother continues to keep her faith and is somewhat of persistent witness for her religion but every time I talk with her I'm a bit discouraged about religion as a whole. I believe in God but its on my own terms and I don't wish to attend any churches. I wish everyone the best, please take care.

  • July 24, 2015 at 3:54 pm

So try telling a cancer patient, like the poster or myself, a That our illness is a direct result of our or other people's sins. See how well that goes over. And I also love the other religious view i heard while suffering from cancer, how god only gives people things they can handle, or to test us. And another gem, when a baby or child dies, that ” oh, god must've needed another angel”. Well you know what? Any petty, childish, capricious, jealous, blood-thirsty, sexist, controlling, genocidal, monsterous, homophobic, bully like the god of the Old Testament is either a false human construct that doesn't actually exist , or a deranged psychopath who I will gladly reject. Have fun wishing my eternal soul burns In Hell. That's the response I most often hear from the “Christ-like” religious folks after making remarks like these.

  • July 24, 2015 at 4:01 pm

It never ceases to absolutely bewilder me how quick the religious are to warmly wrap their arms around mighty science when it “proves” something in the bible. Yet simultaneously, they can, with a straight-face, look an evolutionary biologist in the eye and tell them they are wrong about evolution, or argue that the earth is only thousands of years old to men who've dedicated their lives and careers to studying this planet and geology.

  • July 24, 2015 at 4:21 pm

I'm sure he's familiar with the ludicrous Pascal Wager. Though Pascals logic is sound and reasoning is quite clever and humorous, living your life based on that is silly. I'm pretty sure if a god existed, he would be able to see right through that. People believing simply to hedge their bets as opposed to actually whole-heartedly believing? Any real god would know and would probably send you to Hell anyway. But not to worry, since their is no god or Hell or heaven.

This list of contradictions from anonymous is a good bible study. You can disprove all of them.

  • August 6, 2015 at 5:09 am

Evolution is not completely wrong. Micro evolution does occur. Natural selection leads to changes in a species. Such as a mutation in a mouse leading to a change in fur color. Macro evolution, however, can be disproved by looking at things around us in the modern world. First off, why are apes still around? Did some of them just decide not to evolve?
Natural selection never leads to another species coming into being. A dog can mate with a dog, but their offspring's offspring won't be a cat. It just doesn't work like that.
The fossil record also does not support evolution. Charles Darwin himself admitted to the lack of fossils. If evolution was true, there would be millions and millions of transitional phase fossils leading from one species to another. What's the best that scientists can come up with? An ape that looks a bit like a human.. yeah ok. In conclusion, micro evolution fits with christianity, macro evolution does not. There is no way to prove evolution. In this case you have to ask yourself what makes more sense. A big bang that came out of no where, (because nothing can come from nothing right?) Or, that God made the universe and everything in it. Everything about life screams that there is a divine designer who stitched the seems of all things together. Recently scientists have broken down the atom to the smallest possible form and found that the smallest possible part of an atom is a sound wave. A God breathed sound wave.

I got a little off topic, but that is where Christians should sit with evolution. Honestly if a person claiming that they are a Christian thinks that macro evolution is possible with God's plan, then they aren't real christians.

I didn't believe that the bible was true either but I can tell you this. My father was very ill last year and on life support he didn't believe either. He came of off life support and said he was in a place where he saw Jesus and our family and his friends that passed away. He spoke to my wife's father whom passed away before my wife and I ever met and he knew things about my father in law and things about my wife growing up that he couldn't have known. My father was saved and started reading the bible and learning of God. I lost my dad this year but I know where he is and where I'm going. Everyone has a right to believe what they want but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. God Bless.

i was atheist most of my life never believing in any god or goddesses
i was 32 then, everything was going right for me in life,i had friends/good job/great marriage.
i never smoked and only consumed alcohol in moderation(2 drinks a day)
i was physically active(gym membership) i was diagnosed with brain cancer when i was 34 years old.
doctors told me the usual hocus pocus,i went home that evening and turned on the history channel and it was playing a re-run of god's life,i got amazingly interested and watched through the rest of it,i wasnt sure how to pray but i gave it my best shot,i prayed for safety and cure.
i went to multiple doctors after that,my tumor was growing at a rapid rate and i was getting extremely worried.
i told my friend who is a christian to come over for a few drinks,we played cards and drank a little bit,i then told him that im dying and wont be around much longer.
he showed me how to pray the correct way(with your hands together)
i prayed most of the night for healing.
my next doctors appointment i went to,the doctor says the mass was shrinking,i thought to myself….no way is this possible.
we have medical evidence that says it's impossible for them to shrink(only get bigger)
i kept praying and went to my next visit.
the mass was completely gone and i was labeled a “miracle”
today,i am still healthy but now i'm also healthy in christ! i go to church every sunday and do alot of volunteer work, praise the lord!

What people need to understand , is that the new testament was written by people not by a god.
It is an assembled library put together by several men in the forth century. out of all the books in the new testament there were over one hundred books that were left out.

I’m a little late to this thread obviously but I still wanted to chip in 🙂

Having lived as an atheist, then a new ager for most of my life, and more recently as a sceptic who finally accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior, I know where the unbelievers are coming from. I have read many of their comments here & heard similar things in the real world of course, not least of all from myself. What strikes me is the (no offense) self-importance of the outlook that says if ones questions are unanswered, or answered insufficiently, that is enough cause to deny the existence of God and/or Jesus Christ. Your answers are in the Bible, you just haven’t looked hard enough to find them, maybe because you don’t want to. if there is no passion in your search you will never find them. There will never be enough corroborating accounts of Jesus’ life & works for the obstinate unbeliever. There are sites where you can do free bible study courses, or you can just search your questions & find the appropriate scripture. If all you wanna do is argue for it’s own sake though, this won’t help you.

I hope that one day you will see the benefit of faith in believing in something that you can never understand 100% with your mind, without that faith you will never have the answers you seek, because they are understood in the heart. God operates in many more dimensions than we do, so please don’t expect to understand in our 4D reality with your mind or with science, the existence of God. And please remember that science is nowhere near as sophisticated as some would like to think, many mistakes have been made, resulting in many wrong beliefs for long periods of time. We are taught to trust science over God, it should be the other way around & the only reason it isn’t is because of the influence of Satan on our minds & world. Science is limited because it is a human endeavor. Don’t expect it to ever understand God. Look for answers in the Bible with an open mind.

Bible-based Christians are not intolerant, nor are they stupid, mindless followers. To have people believe this stereotype is part of the brainwashing. Consider this: The thinking christian has not been brainwashed; you have. Many of us in the US have been brainwashed to believe in a theory as factual. That would be evolution. Lies have been placed in textbooks to promote this theory as truth & it is generally accepted as truth in the secular world. We are taught that the Bible is full of myths, including the origins of our world & humanity. See what doors open to reality when you question all of this.

Finally, what’s up with all the satanic imagery everywhere you look? Corporate logos, music videos, politicians & celebs flashing satanic hand signs, children’s cartoons, fashion, movies & TV shows, etc etc. Research the new world order & the elite’s ties to Satan & you might just realize there is a war going on, and it’s for our souls. If you don’t pick a side it will be picked for you & it ain’t gonna be the one you really want to be on. It’s all in the Bible. God bless you.

None of these reasons are remotely close to proving the bible is true. They really don't mean anything.

  • August 23, 2015 at 4:36 pm

Here, I am, Paula Marshall. A reference to a place in the Middle East doesn't prove the bible. There is no archeological evidence for any miracle. Saying the bible says it is not an example of evidence. That's circular reasoning.
Saying everyone believes your religion therefore it's right is argument from popularity.
    Leader acceptance, argument from popularity.
Changed lives, correlation is not causation. I can be good and be an atheist. I haven't raped or killed any more than when I was a christian.
Morals…..God ordered abortion in Numbers 5. ORDERED. Gave directions on how it was to be carried out. Gave instructions on when you sell your daughter in slavery.
How hard to beat your slave.
Supposed God-fearing men in charge of Israel gave directions to rape, pillage, cut open pregnant women, take the virgins back to the priests as sex slaves, kill delinquent teenagers, and that list that someone else posted about what not to do in the Old Testament. All those too. When did you wear a 50/50 shirt? Bet you have one on right now. I will say that some of those laws, such as the ones about hair, were only directed toward the priests. Who were allowed to have sex slaves.
A supposed godly man offered his daughters out to be gang raped. A supposed godly priest sent his sex slave out to be gang raped and she died. Not one word from God about how wrong it was. And if you don't follow all these, [http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/List_of_actions_prohibited_by_the_Bible] you're sinning. And if you say we're not under the OT any more, well screw the ten commandments. A few of them are about his ego, a few of them are about not wishing you had your neighbor's possessions, such as his cow or his wife. Which was in the same line, therefore the same category. Property.
And which ten commandments? There are 3 versions. People had morality before the Jews wrote their book. They knew killing was bad before that. [http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Ten_Commandments]

If I am wrong about God I have wasted my life. If you're wrong about God you've wasted you're eternity.

  • September 15, 2015 at 4:28 pm

All of these arguments are incredibly weak, and would convince nobody, other than those who already believe and are determined to continue doing so.

You didn't actually prove anything… and who are these scholars that support these ridiculous fallacies?

  • October 2, 2015 at 10:30 pm

    Does forbidden-fruit-eating merit eternal punishment?

Dear Christians, have you ever stopped to think about what the Christian story really says: Someone committed a crime. There is a severe penalty for committing that crime. And there is one means to avoid the penalty for that crime and to expunge the record of the perpetrator of that crime.

    Crime: Forbidden fruit eating.

Penalty: A lifetime of hard labor, disease, war, rape, torture, starvation, agonizing physical death, and horrific eternal punishment/torture in the after life.

Means of Restitution: A human sacrifice.

Dear Christians: Isn’t it obvious? This is an ancient fable. No one living in the modern 21st century should believe this tall tale.

These people are so willed against the Bible. Why? A personal issue? Jesus is at the door knocking if you will allow him in. Why so bent on denouncing who you don't believe in, but partly because you haven't the “proof” He exist(ed) as you say.. If I tell you the name of my great grandfather, along with some facts about his life, who are you to say he never existed just because YOU never met him?
Why try so hard to disprove and fictionalize this teaching? If there is no higher power, there would be no reason to be Atheist. It'd be instinct. It seems more so that many people are educated on the teaching, but simply refuse to allow God to direct their moral compass. Why? Jesus taught the disciples to love everyone, to help everyone, not to covet your neighbors belongings or spouse, etc. Isn't that the type of person you would want to be? And do you want your neighbor next door to be everything that the Bible teaches us NOT to be such as lying, bearing false witness on you, stealing your stuff, mistreating you…? Why so feverently attack a teaching that supports loving EVERONE!?
You guys want to make the Bible out to be a myth, but do a real life test. Cut out all the distractions in your life and PRAY God if Your real, show me, guide me, let me feel Your presence. I am only in my 20s and have felt, seen and been reassured so many times. I mean what a dark place this world would be if I had to trust just humans. Humans let you down, and that's b/c God gave them the power of choice. He wants you to love Him because you want to, not because your forced to.
You don't have to say, “Well this teaching is old and contradictory”, just look to the present and future too!
Just a little while back, my husband and I had no $ for a bill, then a random check came for being overcharged for a doc bill from like 5 years prior. Yes it was enough to cover it, and it came the same week 🙂
Many more! He's helped us out constantly! And for those who like to believe its coincedence, well I know its not because it happens time and again just when we need it. He provides!
And what about present day truths? … We had a scarred missionary come to our church one time and he told about how he got scarred when he was in a place in Africa. He said some of the locals were very angry and tried killing him and some others who had been working to convert people. They were surrounded one time by the locals outside their hut/home, and were praying for protection and everything. When all the sudden the locals ran off. I can't remember how long after the attack that he said he was able to peacefully talk to one of the locals and ask why they had become afraid and hadn't killed them. The local said all if those men who had appeared along side them had scared them. The description was that of angels. And this was from non believers!
People have the right not to believe, or to find flaws, but accepting Jesus into your life is the greatest experiment you can try. Does it really hurt you that bad to try to have morals? And the more you seek Him, the more knowledge you gain… and I understand there are some contradictions. Like one time in the Bible someone asked Jesus why it says you can't divorce for any reason but Jesus was saying it a little bit different. And he told the person, it was because their hearts had been hardened that they had been given the harsher laws then… so just soften your hearts people, open your eyes. Miracles happen around you daily. If you think all hope is lost, be that hope you want to see. If you don't want to believe in Jesus, the pray for Him to open your eyes so you can see for yourself if He really exists. If you keep yourself in a negative and closed state of mind, how can you expect for great things to happen in your lives? Just give Jesus a chance. You'll be amazed! You may not love me as a Christian, but I love you all. Because that's what Jesus said to do, and He's not uttering words of hate, but words of love, to benefit us all as a whole.

Only Satan can take credit for these horrific tragedies. God gets the Glory for All Good Things in this World. There are 2 paths to choose from. Some choose God, some choose Satan. I can tell which one you have chosen.

The New York Times has a best seller list, as we all know. But, do they know that the Bible has always been the best selling Book since it was first printed, the first book ever printed, the Gutenberg Bible. Worth a study in, and of itself.

Arguments for or against any religion can't be made intellectually. Believing or not believing in any particular religion is not an intellectual pursuit. It is an emotional pursuit and one seeded by early childhood indoctrination when the human mind is most vulnerable. It will take generations and more and more people moving away from religion and thus never indoctrinating their children in the first place, before all religions and superstitious beliefs fade away from society.

Amen, anonymous(April 30)!Abortions are NOT in God's plan! Any sin (murder) is outside of God's will and therefore outside of His plan. Each mother makes her choice to abort, not God, but He allows it because we are NOT puppets, He gave us free will to choose. His plan is that each and every one of those babies lives, but because we have free will to make that decision, God allows it to happen. He HATES sin and abortion is murder which is a sin. No sin ( including Abortion) Is in God's plan.

Circular reasoning-The text was scrutinized by the church? How can I trust the church? Hasn't the church been known for corruption? Isn't that why Jesus flipped the tables in the synagogue?

  • November 13, 2015 at 3:20 am

To the one who calls them uneducated: How do you know how much school these people have been to, or how much they read? It's great that you have faith. I just wanted to point out the circular reasoning of numbers 3, 4, and 7. How can we trust the church, when we all know of it's corruption?

whoever wrote this is a complete retard. Number 9 for example. Just because the bible has influenced the most people, that in no way makes the bible true. A lot of people can be stupid and not know it ya know

  • December 14, 2015 at 8:48 pm

Your first few lines use the words copies. There are no originals only copies of copies is this true or false. If true all you have is copies upon copies no matter how many you have to verify what the originals had.Even the Authors of the Gospels are unknown. These were translated by trinity believers into Latin and each translation has the slant of its translators in what they firmly believe in whether it be right or wrong. So how can we verify every word and line of the Holy Bible as being the truth. We would need to be Bible Experts and be fluent in Hebrew,Arabic,Greek,Latin and in English. There is one way around this and that is to learn and believe in the Truth of the Holy Bible, for God has preserved it,but you have to do this with Fear and Trembling,as the Holy Bible itself tells us to do.When you come into this truth you can quite easily see what has been added.

  • December 18, 2015 at 3:30 pm

I'm glad to see those unbelievers trying to claim the bible as “false”. You all know why? Because they're showing they are trying to find evidence that the bible is real because they want it to be real. Why other reason would they have taken the time to read this website about evidence of the bible being real and commented on the article? Because they showed they all want something with God, but Satan is blinding them by giving them excuses on why the bible is false. God bless you all, He will help you see, for He is good.

God has always been in my life even when I was not aware of it. It seems foolish to disbelieve his existence and the Bibles authenticity when he is continuously proving his awesome grace and total understanding in my humble non deserving life. To all you non believers or folks on the fence, you do not know what you are missing…Its beyond words..
